Last year I went through several buckets because the water tap is about 4 stables up from mine, and I can't lift the buckets, and am normally on my own, I drag them down to my stable.
I was using tubtrugs. Is there any bucket that is stronger, or that is easier to carry?
Thanks
Nickie

i use these but use smaller buckets to fill them up as they get really heavy but my two drink like camels my 11.2 pony drinks two of them a night lol

mainly because taz learned how to pick the flexi ones up and chuck them across the stable door at the yard owner

so embarrasing had to empty my stable every time he done it they last for ages as well

i also use the tubtrugs for water and i also drag mine across yard - well up a step and then few mtrs to stable....but everyday i've been thinking theres always water around and underneath it...so dont know if its leaking??

I use a big Stubbs heavy duty bucket. You can get 2 normal little buckets full into it.

I just fill it up while it's already in my wheelbarrow. Then just lift it out at the stable end.

Because they are so solid and rigid you can hoik it out at the other end ok.

Might not work with a tubtrugs as they are quite flexible?

Mine doesn't have a hole, it just seems to have gone weak at bottom where it joins side and seems to leak, like you say kezz with the water around it.
Think I might get something like jentaz suggested. It looks much stronger and should be able to carry it.
I looked at the trolleys, but don't think I could lift a bucket off it

I just looked at the one jentaz put up. It's the same as my two. I would be pretty sure you wouldn't be able to carry it. It's really weighty.

I used to fill with small buckets, but it's miles from the tap and my water buckets needed a rinse and wash around so I now do two trips with the wheelbarrow.

I got through a ridiculous amount of tub trugs because of the same problem. Either the bottoms went or the handles came off. I now just use 2 smaller hanging buckets. I have to say I prefer having them hung because I find that they dont get so full of cr*p.

hmmm how interesting then....mines quite wet everyday i didnt know if it was where she was making a mess or perhaps having a swim or something....so I may need a new one then? damn it more money to be spent..grrrr....I do like the good old fashioned types as mentioned above...heavy duty ones but i'd have to fill couple of buckets and carry them over...on plus it'll keep me fit and strengthen my arms...lol

the really solid plastic ones with big handle

hold 2 normal buckets of water.
i pour 1 in, fill other normal bucket, carry 1 in each hand to stable, pour other in to fill Stubbs one completely. (when carrying, this balances you and won't put your back out...!)
they are heavy and solid, i've used mine for about 20 years and they're as new. frostproof as well as horse proof.
most horses don't drink more than this overnight, i sometimes top up at late stables.
if it's a hoodlum horse who jumps in his water bucket, i put the stubbs one in a black rubber one slightly larger, which gives more stability and traction.

Just get a hose pipe ..... spray end so you can turn it off at the stable end. Saves lots of trouble and back problems !!
Quick and easy to wash buckets out, and if you need to remove it as not allowed by YO to leave it attached ( speak to them about health and safety ... back injuries !!) just have it long enough to reach your stable so that it´s easier to roll up and store away !

I just use 2 normal buckets, at least if he poops in one or knocks one over he has half left and they are easy to carry.

Am I just a cheapskate?

or you could just split the water between your tt & a normal pail to carry it to the stable and pour it in in the stable.

I just bought an AMAZING gadget that you put in your wheelbarrow and fill with water and then just tip it out:

H2GO Bag holds 80 litres and you lay it in the wheel barrow (it fills it completly and has a non slip back and you fill it with water and then wheel it to your bucket and, best bit, you tip it up like you are emptying a wheel barrow - to pour out the water

and it was under a tenner!!

I would love to use 2 normal buckets Baileyhoss, trouble is I would need to provide 4, and that's just silly lol!

I think it is just one of those thongs that will be a problem until the end of time!

I've seen B&Q selling something similar to the above gizmo...they're yellow things on wheels, sort of an alternative wheelbarrow. Someone at my yard has got one and I've got my eye on getting one.

I had something similar last year bought from b+q but it only lasted a few weeks before it got a hole in it. It was made from quite brittle plastic rather than the softer wheelie bin type plastic.
Hoping this will last a bit longer. Of course my stable is as far away from the tap as can be. Last year I had a fall from my neddy, broke 3 ribs and was unable to lift or carry anything for weeks. hence the search for something to wheel about that wouldn't spill the water all over the place.
