I had an Exmoor that loved to do this - found the right sized old car tyre and wedged them in. He occasionally wiggled them out, but they mostly staiyed where they were meant to!

Good luck!:D

If you use the tub trugs, get some bale band and tie the handle around the bottom hinge of your stable door. That works for one or two on my yard.

I have one of those round plastic wheelbarrows that gardeners use. Like this:

You can use it directly as a water container, but I just put a trug in it. I keep it in the corner of the stable and my mare has never been able to tip it. I bought mine from Aldi or Lidl, they have them in quite often, you just have to watch out for when they have gardening stuff in. It was about 7-8 quid, definitely not the price of the one on the webpage!

hi the ones you clip on the wall flat backed ones will be too small she drinks alot
do the tyres stop her from picking the bucket up!!!
the tub truck looks like a good idea do they hold alot of water what size tub do you put in it have you got it attached to the wall somehow

I think it is a 40 litre trug tub I have in it (I'll check tonight). My mare live out over summer, but during the winter she was in overnight from 5.30pm until 8am and there was always a little water left at the bottom in the morning. She's a 16.2hh WBxTB, quite a big girl, who likes to drink :-)

I haven't attached it to the wall, she has never tried to play with it even though she does like to throw her empty feed buckets about. I think you probably could attach it to the wall if necessary, maybe even put it in a large tyre for extra security :-)

It is also quite handy as you can wheel it to and from the stable/tap, rather than carry a heavy water bucket, which is good if you have any back injuries/pain, etc. (this is the reason I originally bought one).

hi this really does sound like my solution thanks
will have to try find one now lol
never in a million years would i have found this item

Big TubTrug in a car tyre, I had a corner water bucket before, but Dylan figured out how to tip it over and did it every night ... grr. The tyre stops him from doing it though :)

my worry with tub truk in car tyre is she picks them up
looking into the garden thing but would like to see one in the flesh so to speak anyone know which diy etc place sells them

Both of my girls have the 'wheely buckets' as well. Genie's is attached to the wall by means of a bungee around it, but Titch's is currently loose and won't quite go in the corner due to a sort of ramp around the edge. She's a very curious yearling that tips EVERYTHING, but she hasn't even touched it. I also have a tub trug inside them instead of the water directly, as people at the yard have found that after a while they do crack.

ETA - Homebase do them.

i do not like the clips on the wall.
some one posted on hho about a horse that nearly teared his bottom lip off from playing with one of those in the stable.

have you tried putting a breeze block or two in the trug?

Clip to the wall type for me too. I have two of them as they aren't big enough (I like them to have two each as sometimes they poo in one of the buckets, so ruining their water supply until I'm up again in the morning!). I personally only like trigger clips, or just a short piece of bailer twine from a ring on the wall to the bucket for the safety reasons mentioned above.

Here are some pictures I have from last year. Sorry, I forgot to check the bucket capacity last night, I'm moving yards next week and am having a major clear out/tidy up. I'll try and remember to check tonight!
