Water drinker bum rubber!!

Any ideas how to stop my boy rubbing his bum on his automatic drinker in the night? Every morning I have found wet shavings underneath the bowl which is much more than him dribbling after having a drink so I suspect he is rubbing himself on it and making it overflow. I dont want him to break it and get covered in water!!! Any tips would be welcome!!

Give him something else to rub on instead of the automatic water drinker after you checked out the reason why he is rubbing?

My itchy pony was destroying her haybar so i attatched two astroturf doormats to the wall to try and prevent extra damage. So at £9 each they were cheaper than a new haybar. They seem to have worked. The haybar is still attatched to the wall and hasn't got any more squished. It doesn't wreck her mane and tail though it does sometimes get a bit roughed up.

I hate to say think yourself lucky my boy used to poo in his every night without fail, I'm sure he used to laugh at me having to put my hand into cold poo tea each morning to find the plug, AGAIN!
He then got a dustbin in its place as he couldn't balance and poo into that and we've moved onto normal buckets.
Remind me, why do we do this?
