water for horses

Anyone know the guideline for TBC (total bacterial counts) or coliform limits for water suitable for livestock (horses)?

water bill is huge in the yard so they are thinking of using a ground souce for the horses.

Don't know anything about that but we collect the rainwater into large butts. Not had any problems so far.

I think the recommended limit is less than 5000 coliform organisms per 100 milliliters of water.

Are you sure Masterbronze? If thats the case we are home and dry. results showed 3 per 100ml. the tolerance for human drinking water is zero per 100ml and the water lab would not give a guideline for livestock.

Well only as sure as the environement agency in UK? But i can't talk from any scientific knowledge!!
