We supply well water to water troughs for the horses on livery. Recently a horse owner started to worry about the quality of water and had it tested.
The results indicated a bacteria level of coliforms of 83MPN/100ml and is worried about it because she has been told the legal limit of drinking water is zero and our water should not be consumed by humans (which I would agree with) and animals as this could lead to cross contamination and long term illnesses.
As far as I can see levels of coliform in water for animals of 200MPN/100ml is acceptable for animals.
Can a vet comment.
