So sorry, another question!!

At our new yard/field the mains water supply is to a trough about 25ft away from the stables....not too far but I don't really want to be lugging buckets back and forth in the middle of the winter if I can help it, so want to run a pipe up to the stables with a tap. The main pipe that runs to the trough is that MDPE stuff so I was thinking about getting a three way connector and more pipe to run to the stables and set up a tap at the end of it. I'm totally clueless as have never done this before (only seen similar set ups at other yards)!

Does this sound like a sensible solution? I'm assuming that as the trough has a floating ball valve that when its not filling this shouldn't affect the tap at all?

You can indeed put a T in the pipe before it reaches the trough and run another pipe off this to a tap near the stables. It may be in your interests to put an inline tap in the pipe after the T and before the trough, this way you can turn off the supply to the trough (say to clean it) without turning the tap supply off too. Of course, you can just tie the ballcock up in the trough to stop it filling, which is cheaper, but sometimes the floats are boxed in.

that will work but i would fill a trough or large bin in yard and have a "clean bucket" then dunk and fill stable buckets from container. saves watching each bucket fill and if container is full at end of each day if pipe freezes then you still have some water! i would also keep the dregs water in anothr container for washing feetetc. i am on metered water its quite expensive!

When you cut the blue pipe insert a pipe insert into the hole then fit in to the connector that you use and then tighten. It stops the pipe being crushed when you tighten which causes leaks.

Thanks I will definately use pipe inserts then! I wouldn't have thought of that so good thing you pointed it out!

We already have two dustbins put to one side to put by the tap (when its there!) to keep filled and use for dunking in winter and we are also going to get a water butt attached to the guttering so we have water to use for things like feet washing etc....have been at a yard before where the water pipes froze every day in winter and there was nothing put by in reserve, it was a nightmare!!
