my horse is ok in his loose ring snaffle but on faster work gets strong although can stop him would a waterford loose ring be one up and make life a little easier for me never used one and before anyone starts yes I can ride !!!! and have good hands !!!

Does he lean? Or does he put up his head?
Waterfords stop horses leaning but will do nothing if your horse puts his head up and runs

I had one for my horse when he used to run off with me hacking. With this bit, it seemed to just bend round his mouth comfortably and off he went. We used trees as brakes! Needless to say, the bit was sold pronto on Ebay!

Some people swear by them though, and perhaps if I'd been using a Martingale I would've had more success.

Personally, I found the 4 ring gag to be the best as you've got a choice of what ring to use and for me, it broke my horse's habit of knowing he could run away with me. We now ride in a loose ring snaffle for hacking and dressage! What we did with the 4 ring was to put one rein on the big ring (like a hanging snaffle and another rein on the bottom ring. I then just knotted the bottom rein and used it for emergencies and it worked a treat. This bit is severe but used carefully it works and don't forget both your safety is paramount.

I bought one for my horse who tends to set her head and tank off. Lots of people swear by them so I thought I'd give it a go. Didn't really do anything for us and she didn't feel very happy in it so it is sitting in the tack room gathering dust

Now I use a ported snaffle for everything except XC when I use a kimberwick but I think mine was setting and running cos she is sensative in her mouth rather than because she is naughty!

Actually guys I wen't x counrtry yesterday with him put him in a little tom thumb bit with roundings and took his hunting breastplate off he was realy good (the attachment ) I saw someone had posted about the breastplate attachment made there horse go better he didn't snach at the bit I think the attachment running on the rein made him do this.

As your horse goes well in a loose ring, I'd say a loose ring waterford is a good option

It's the only bit I'll use for George other than his neue schule trans lozenge loose ring.

I actually don't feel the need for it anymore, but at the times we were first going XC schooling it did his job and he's not learned to set and tank.

In my opinion that's what a step up in bitting should do, help you make a point that takes you back to the snaffle.
