My tb mare has developed quite watery eyes over the last few days, there is no sticky gunk and it is perfectly clear. The whites are not particularly red and there doesn't seem to be any inflammation although her right eye was partially closed yesterday (did not seem swollen) she doesn't mind me fiddling with them either. It first started a couple of weeks ago with her R eye, I thought it was the flies so put a mask on her, it cleared up for a while and then came back, took the mask off and it improved and now it's back again in both eyes and worse than before.

I know it sounds a bit mental but I have just pulled her forelock as it was a touch too long and I thought maybe it was going in her eyes.... Does anyone have any experience of this? Any ideas of what it could be or treatment before I call the vet?

Get some saline solution and some eye wipes keep them clean by wipeing over (downwards) twice a day, keep up with it hopefully it will clear, then just do it a few times a week to keep them clear, sometimes with the wind and colder weather some horses eye's weep more.

On the other hand then the tear duck becomes blocked and tears are constantly running down her face, she needs them flushing out by the vet.

Not sure what's going on but the post from Serendipity doesn't show, so no idea what s/he said! So I'll say my bit anyway. Hopefully it's nothing - combination of cold wind and who knows what. But do take extra care as eyes are so precious and so difficult to mend if they get injured or infected. It could be that your horse had a thorn in her eye or a foreign body of some sort. If sge has a scratch to her cornea, she will need help with antibx drops or cream. If a foreign body is still in there, she could be in big trouble.
