Nanook has really bad diarrhoea . Poos last night were lovely and firm the first one this morning started as a normal one but final bit had a sloppy mucosal coating. Since then he has done about 6 projectile sloppy poops, none contain blood but they are basically brown water. Vets gave us some food to help with uncomfortable tummies and some electrolytes. How long do I allow this to continue before I get more worried and go back to the vets? Should I do anything else to help him?

Have you tried a starvation period? I would try a starvation period for 24 hours, when you see a sign of firmness then offer chicken and rice (boiled) and leave water down all the time. In an adult dog thats otherwise bright in self and active, I would start to be concerned if I did not see firmness after 3 days of little or very bland food.
If dog went down hill I would have it seen sooner.

Has he eaten anything that could upset him this way? change of food? treats, anything outside?

He had some cooked liver yesterday but its something he gets as walk treats when we go to exciting places often so don't think it was that. Changed food 7 days ago from salmon and potato to skinners salmon and rice we were getting through a £30 bag in 10 days but I am guessing skinners doesn't agree with him ....

Maybe it is the skinners in that case you can try what I said above, starve for a day, then introduce boiled chicken and rice or fish and rice, then when firm you can try and re introduce skinners (very small amount) at a time and see what happens.
Aslong as bright and drinking atelast get him dry and ty to find out what has upset him.

probadioic (sp) yokurt. is great for dogs and horses have used on both and clear it up, give a tub if it and no food at all for 24-48 hrs. plenty of water.

Thanks guys we have some prokolin for him which he loves. Bad day today though OH had to rush home from work as dog walker called at lunchtime as there were 4 explosions in my kitchen!

when ours get like this we only give them boiled rice to eat and we use Diarsanyl Plus Oral Paste (i find the cheapest place to get this from is animed) and it clears up within a day.
