I'm now venturing into here as I have got an 8 week old JRT. He's a sweet little dog.
I have a question about housetraining. I take him outside ever hour or so when I'm in the house for about 10 mins until he's been to the toilet. He seems to be doing okish but then he seems to have accidents in house which i expect. I was wondering if i am doing the right thing or not. Its been years since I last had a puppy.

Pictures please!! I love JRT puppies (i am biased!) our little girl was a nightmare to toilet train, we tried every bit of advice! Just make sure you pair it with a command so you can tell them to go last thing at night! :)

He's off to the vets tonight for his first injections.
He may hate me afterwards :(

Awwww!!! :D I love puppies! He's so cute! Don't worry, mine loved me even more after the vets tortured her- she knew it was the vets fault, and I was the one who took her back home and cuddled her better!

Lots of praise every time he goes in the right place and a small treat coupled with a word he can associate with the action and you will have a clean pup in no time. BUT bladder control is not good in very young puppies so accidents are to be expected, best to ignore them and clean area with a biological washing product to make sure no smell is left to prompt him to go again in the same place. Telling off is not recommended as even if you catch him in the act and he understands why you have suddenly become dangerous all he will learn is not to go in front of you. (Can anybody tell I am re-reading Jean Donaldson!):o

Aww you have got a tri-coloured, mum's jr was a tri-coloured so sweet. We had ours in the summer and used newspaper which we left by the back door in case of accidents.

At this age you can obs expect that, but with regards to you taking him out hourly which is ideal, also keep him in the same room as you at all times when you are home, as if he passed and you cant see you cant redirect him (lift him) and take him outside when he begins to squat:) and when you cannot supervise if you are crate training then place him back in there where he will try to hold in a smaller space rather than piddle in the room he is left.
