Does anybody do this? Is it the norm to do so?
We've had our defender about 3 weeks now, and we've had other Defender drivers wave at us, or flash their lights.
I find it rather strange lol.

It's the same with motorbike riders

We nod to each other as we go past

Yep! But only defenders. Dont flash or wave at disco or rangy drivers as they are not proper landy owners! Personally I think it is fun! I always wave!

Ummmm - no, never did that with any of the Defenders we had

When I was a small kid my friends parents had a 2CV6 - they ALWAYS had to wave at other 2CV6 drivers

Old Landrovers especially are quite keen on waving at each other. Definitely not at Range Rovers, Discoveries or Freelanders!

2CV drivers always used to wave to each other (they're so rare on the roads these days)

PROPER ORIGINAL Mini drivers also wave to each other.

yes get it done all the time to us. Think there are a lot of car drivers do it- always get waved at when in the MGF (only proper ones not the new ones like mgtfs and the like)& my OH gets other MR2 drivers waving at him

Yes I used to do it down South. Trouble is where I am now (Cairngorms) I would never have my hands on the wheel, its the non defender drivers that need the solidarity hee hee!

So up here I only do it if its a white LWB hard top like ours (tho theirs prob not so bashed). We have 2 other Landies but one is a mobile water bowser :-) and the other is a mobile fuel bowser

)) if the government gets its way thats all Landy owners will be able to use them for :-(((((((

My dads got a newish Defender and does this, I don't think the noveltys worn off yet! Its a bit embarrasing when they don't wave back but most of them do!

We do if people wave at us first, but we are in a very rurl area so Landys are common! The Freelander and Disco we had, no, the Series III, yes yes yes, and it made us and others grin! I wish we had kept it, we named it Diger as when it was running, it said 'diggadiggadiggadiggadigga' constantly!
This is Digger

mum does it in her mgf and dad does it in his xjs

i cant as I have a golf estate and they are a bit common...i have however sold it this morning to have an astra estate that dads friend is selling but i reaaaaallllly want a defender

just cant afford to buy or run one!

may well just wave to other def drivers and see if I can fool them all into thinking im a defender!!

It is just one of those things.........you now belong to The Brotherhood!

We always used to get it, rather nice really.

Fairly rural farming area where I live, so the majority of Defender drivers are farmers and we only wave if we know each other

Other than that only waved at by defender "club member" types when out and about in Beastie, old ex Army Defender. Was once asked to join the local Landrover club, but when they found out it was a Nissan under the bonnet they weren't so keen

Haha - I found that when I got my Defender. To start with I wondered what was going on and then got into the spirit of it and started waving back LOL!
Sadly I don't have mine anymore as I have a lorry now and don't need a tow vehicle anymore. I sold it over 4 months ago and I've just noticed it sparkling and shiny on the forecourt of the local Landy dealer. I felt really sad when I saw it (how silly am I?) I hope it gets a nice home.

Around us, the farmers wave at one another, regardless of what they are driving. When townies in their Defenders start flashing and waving, I normally raise a hand, but never initiate such an exchange unless it's someone I know - I find the whole thing a bit sad really, but that is just me.

My friend was telling me that the whole wave thing came about when pretty much every farm had a defender, and farmers would wave to one another (which they still do) but then townies with defenders thought they should join in too, and it just spiralled from there.

When I had my mgf I always used to get waved at by other mgf or the classic mg drivers, although never by the newer mgtf's. Same with the old mini's, I think it's great fun!! Made me want a defender even more now!!

Yay! It's great fun! There is a guy near me with a 110 who waves franticly at me when we pass! I don't even know who he is but it is the spirit of the Landys so i wave franticly back!!
I always put my hand up when passing a fellow Defender driver and most of them wave back...apart from the Water Board!
