Can anyone help me as I have always wondered why my horse has this? He has a wavy coat but only on a small section on his back under the saddle area. He has it in his summer and winter coat, but it is more obvious in his winter woolies, and it isn't from the saddle as it doesn't go away when he isn't being ridden.

Does anyone elses horse have this? I have never seen this before?

Sorry if the picture is massive.

My friend has a similar thing with her horse and is always worrying about it. She has had his saddle changed and back checked but it is still there. I would interested to hear if anybody has an explanation for it.

I don't have an explanation but it looks quite similar to the wavy coat some dogs yet - one of my labradors does, and my old german shepherd used to.

They don't wear saddles, so I doubt the saddle is causing it.

He is 5 so I doubt it is cushings. His coat is always like that, and he doesn't usually get that sweaty there. He had a few months off over the winter and the wave stayed exactly the same, so don't think it's anything to do with saddles or sweat.

Well curly or wavy hair is usually to do with the shape of the follicle, maybe he was born that way and the waves have developed more as hes growing up(???)
