Im looking for a proper waterproof jacket for yard duties and riding in, and when i say waterproof i mean waterproof, something that will keep me dry when its raining properly, not just a quick shower.

I have been looking at the Barbour waxed jackets, but they are  quite pricey, however if they do the job i wouldn't mind making the investment.

So what do you wear or find to be the best?

Depends what size you are but I have an almost new Barbour Bedale that I've only used a couple of times that I'm thinking of selling purely because I just don't get to wear it; it's a brown 38 I think.

I've found some of the most waterproof jackets are goretex outdoor brand jackets like berghaus , north face etc.
They are pricey, but ive had my berghaus for about 16 years and its still waterproof.
I think the musto sailing stuff is also supposed to be good too.
These jackets are normally machine washable too as long as you follow the instructions.
If you do get a Barbour I know the customer service is good, and you can send them back for cleaning and reproofing.

I have looked at North Face and Berghaus type jackets before, i must admit they look nice and are cheaper than Barbour (well some of them are), but it did wonder if the Barbour would be more fit for the job

Nice to know that Barbour have good customer service and will do reproofing as well.

I have got the Musto canter jacket, it's made with the sailing material so said to be waterproof and windproof. I tested this out to the max the other day in a torrential downpour (timed it wrong when schooling!) and can safely say that I was completely dry. Also being windproof it is also lovely and warm, you don't need thick layers underneath. It's £140 but a great fit for riding and and looks smart. Can't recommend it highly enough. Plus being Musto will last for years like my previous one :)

Barbour and dri as a bone (sp). My Barbour had for years (15+), it's been reproof'd by Barbour twice and still just as good as when I bought it! My long dri as a bone equally as good and kept me totally dry when riding but not so easy to move around the yard in as almost down to my ankles!
Expensive but would say yes, worth the investment as will literally last years 😃
