We are redoing our menage (outdoor) and need a budget surface but have been told NOT to use vaseline surfaces. I had posted earlier about Hyrdogel but no one has used it so...

has anyone used a vasaline coated sand and if so, how long did it stay good for?

Im really surprised you have been advised against vaseline coated sand! I had a menage put in about 10 years ago which has this, plus a topping of PVC granules. Its stayed good all this time - doesnt freeze, always drains perfectly and never gets deep in the summer.

The arena i use at YOs place has been down for 15 years. has little to no maint. and is absolutely fine. As long as it hasnt been too wet it doesnt freeze. Really drains well too. That is sand/vaseline, pvc granules.
TBH I also think the surface might be older, as i have a feeling it came from an excisting arena.

Not sure you can get PVC anymore.... I think the "in" thing is fibres, sand and wax... Hmmm...might have to look into PVC...

Bob makes a right mess of the school just bowling round...let alone jumping...

The surface you have, you havent had long?
How much are you willing to spend?
I know martin collins are expensive, but when i was looking for a top up for the arena where i am now i was quote around 1500 for a 25x45 with one of their top surfaces.

My friend Gill works for them, might be worth giving her a call, if shes better

as shes been very poorly recently.

Wax might be the way to go.

Budget at about £14k to include removal of current surface (to put to one side only), replace membrane and then back fill. 20x40. I think they quoted hubby £13k plus vat AND haulage....which works out at about £20k....

I am sure I have seen an ad in h and h for "greasy coated granules" and I was interested to have a look at them too. Think it could have been Manchester plastics? Shall check tomorrow.
