Well, have taken the plunge and as of today will become a pony owner.

Found a lovely Welsh Sec A for my kids. She's a really gentle, easy to handle 15 yr old who's been with current owners for 6/7 yrs. Had her 2 stage vetted and all was well.

My girls are only 8 and 6 and they are absolutely smitten with her already. They hovered round at the vetting yesterday and gave her heaps of cuddles as soon as it was finished.

They have already chosen her a horrendously pink headcollar and leadrope... I can see this poor pony is going to look like My Little Pony before very long. Do they do hoof oil with glitter? If so, please don't tell my kids.

I realise now that my allotment is probably going to have to be turned over to mega scale carrot production. We went up there yesterday morning and they picked the bestest nicest organically grown, Enviromesh protected carrots for pony.. which she did enjoy and I hope she appreciates the work that's gone into them :D

Today we go up to the yard (she's staying there) to do the paperwork stuff and then she's ours. I've wanted a pony for 40 years. Unfortunately I'd need to lose 4 stone and use a pair of roller skates to ride this one but hey.

How exciting!! Hope you have lots of happy times with her and your girls :)

Ps *whispers* Im pretty sure I've seen glitter hoof oil somewhere!

Ah we got a purple grooming kit... I did justify this on the grounds that brushes are less likely to get lost when they're visible.

I'm going to get a lunge cavesson and roller etc today and thankfully I haven't seen any in pink at all. So we can be sensible some of the time!

Well done, you'll have loads of fun, and the bonus of very tired children who sleep well!!

They do make glitter hoof oil, it lasts very well too. My girls painted their ponies feet the other day and they are still sparkly. They do a glitter spray too for manes and tails, and apparently dogs too as my Danes are sparkly!

Oh noooooo. Poor pony I can see what's going to happen! ... At the moment she's a lovely grey. I can see she's going to end up sparkly pink.

Well we survived day one. Not sure about my wallet though, it's feeling a bit sore!!

We only needed two trips to the saddler to stock up on some bits and pieces (thank goodness pony came with saddle and bridle). We were in there yesterday too, so I'm surprised we weren't offered a season ticket.

My girls had the best time ever, grooming their pony (lots of hugging involved) and then of course having a ride. Pony behaved fantastically well, very patient (fortunately).

Brought the tack home and gave it all a good clean. Think the saddle will need replacing in the next few months (a synthetic that's seen better days) but it'll do fine for now.

8 yr old said she wants to set her alarm for 6 tomorrow so she can be up at the yard nice and early.

Bet she won't be saying that when it's cold and rainy!!

And I've found something I still recognise after 20 years. The packaging has changed but good old Belvoir saddle soap is still the same as far as I can tell.

oh bless how exciting I love it when kids get all excited about getting up early to go and do their ponies, I remember doing this at their age.

I too have seen the glitter hoof oil and glitter spray for mane's and tails.. lol... robinson's also stock it ha ha

So nice to hear a happy story on here :)

Hope the eagerness continues ha ha

Well no glitter hoof oil in stock - thankfully. Got some nice feedy-hoofy stuff instead.

I wonder what time they will wake me tomorrow then, better get an early night in case they do get up at 6 and expect me to take them down to the yard at first light!

So, what time did you get up to go to the yard today?

Or have you already gone to bed in order to recover in time for tomorrow?

It's gonna be a looooong summer holiday for you :D

Any piccies?
