Yay, something new to work to, and lots of progress and plans for ben... Im so excited
We have sold our bates elevation, and Im really really pleased with the price I got, and I have purchased one of these (its on its way this week!)
:
Its much straighter cut which means I can use it for showing and it should enable his shoulders to swing more freely, plus I am hoping it will be better for my posture and leg position.
Some of you may have seen that benjamin has started jumping, he has done a couple of ridden sessions (no more than a couple of minutes jumping, and he has loved it)
Schooling wise, he is such a different horse, really nice and forward and the right kind of energy, a huge change from the slug boy of a few months ago.
We are having 'follow the leader issues' in canter out on hacks, but we have a plan to solve this, so Im sure it wont be long until he is perfect at that too
He's a hard horse to keep up with
any day that he does not do any work he is grumpy as hell when I turn him out to the field
but the second he sees any sort of tack or lunging equipment he pokes his ears forwards and settles
he keeps me working and on my toes with this!
Anyway, Ive now arranged to have a lesson every week, one week YO is going to teach me focusing on jumping (1/2 hr) He is only four, but he does love it, and the lessons are going to be far more geared towards, pole work, striding practice, position etc, with a few small jumps added in. The next week my lesson will be with a local dressage instructor, working on flatwork, my posture, core strength and balance, again this will only be for 1/2 hr. I will be alternating between jumping and flat work lessons on a weekly basis.
Next weekend, there is a lovely local show, the same show that I first took ebony to, the same show she did her first clear round at. Its now at a different venue, but the ethos is fantastic at that show, and perfectly geared towards babies. I am hoping, that if the saddle is here in time and fitted, we will be going to the show, they have a Tack and Turnout class, which I think will be ideal to get him in the ring under saddle without too much pressure on the both of us. The also do a lovely little clear round, or a mini stakes at 2 ft which is split into senior and junior, generally these classes have one double in them, which I will practice at home this week. I particularly like this show, because they understand young and green horses, and the emphasis is not on three strikes and your out in the jumping, its on giving the horse the opportunity to get around and develop their confidence (even if they are eliminated in the process... it did wonders for ebonys confidence)
I probably, will just do tack and turnout and the clear round, although It all depends... If for whatever reason I dont like the look of the clear round, I will go around the 2ft....
Pretty excited about the whole thing & looking forward to a hack later today
