Arghh so so scary, just sent off Moon's BE reg
crazy.gif

So the plan is... xc schooling next Sunday, working on stringing together a few fences and going over ditches/in water without a lead first time. This will be her 3rd time xc schooling, so thrilled with her last time as she doesnt spook/ mess around, just gets on with it.
Then she will do her first competition at a local PC ODE, I've entered the 2'3 as I want her to be able to be very green and trot round if she needs to- I have no doubts she'd jump the 2'9 but want to cling onto her confidence!!
Then she will have a couple of weeks final training before going to
-Moreton intro on 12th September,
- followed by Berkshire College on the 26th (is it mean to do Bricky too on the 24th?)
-then maybe Winkleigh on the 30th,
- Bath and West on the 7th October and if alls well,
-a PN run at either Tweseldown or Aldon (or both....)

What do you think? Asking too much.... or wise to keep her running so that next season hopefully we'll come out, do a couple of intros then get established at PN?

I think you'll know as you go, I daresay the going will make a big difference. BUT it's great news that you're going to get out and about. It's just a shame you'll be competing against all those career Introers.........ho hum 'wanders off whistling'

Lol, I'm going to write a petition to ban them all...intro should be reserved for baby horses and novice riders

Bricky is really lovely xc v.inviting and if very confident a few tougher options if you want to take them instead of alternatives.
My horse was v.green when i started and I found 4 to be perfect before stepping up to PN as a good range of jumps - corners, water, steps etc which you might not get if do less. Also if you start now you have something to work on over winter. I do not think it would be mean running with only 2 days gap after all being green you are only hacking round and if tired you can just do some combined training and miss the xc.

Only bummer about Bricky is the dressage warm up which is sloping. I am hoping to do Moreton PN heard it was straightforward.

We can cope with sloping, not looking for a wonder score- to stay within the arenas and get right canter would be nice

Yep Moreton's lovely, think it's quite simple

Oo Oo Oo I get to meet you if you go to Winkleigh....
Sorry back to the post!
I think it sounds fine, we only took Monty Xc schooling once the week before his first BE event and he flew round no problems, we schooled over the Pre Novice Course from a trot and I think your horse sounds similar. They are either very good from day one and need little training how to cope or you have to spend ages teaching them.
We are doing an un aff at Nutwell Court 5th September, how about going there?
Don't forget to come and say hello, otherwise I end up grinning like a nutter at every rider who rides past...

Makes me feel really bad as my horse is 10yrs (hardly a baby although only started BE this year), and wouldnt classify myself as novice rider.........yet we are riding at intro, but definately not winning anything!! My aim is to one day get placed and feel really confident, then move up the levels..... he's not particulary scopey so dont want to rush!!

I know what you are getting at, as some of the horses we compete against look as though they should be at Badminton....not doing intros!!

Dont worry, I'm just joking with SM, I do think that some people stay in intro when they really shoulnt and just pot-hunt but there are many genuine people such as yourself who are quite right to stick with it until theyre happy to move up!!

Ooooh yay!! Had better enter that one then- god my poor father will have a fit when he sees what I've been planning

Hopefully I'll take my trailer test soon though, although I wouldnt be happy going to an event alone with a baby.
Is Winkleigh nice? Only problem with first week of September is that I have uni re-takes and I really must try to pass them *boring*

sounds like a plan but you had better start the rain dance as the ground at berkshire college is concrete, even with rain on saturday and during the day on sunday the ground was still really hard when i was up competing there on sunday. (its only 5 minutes from yard)

Well i managed to get Orla round an intro, and she'd never been XC schooling at all, never even jumped at home (due to not having any jumps) the only jumping she'd done was a 2'3" ODE where she was 'E'.. a 2'6" ODE where she was 'E'.. and a 2'9" ODE where you guessed it, she was 'E'.. she then went to Hatherleigh intro and came 6th haha!!

Go For It

As for doing too much in one go.. you can only tell that as you and when you do each event, the horse will tell you if it's doing too much!!

And the quick answer to your question, is Winkleigh nice?.. No!!
I guess it isn't that bad, but i'd only go to it because it's our local event.. it's hard/stoney ground, the dressage is on the side of a hill, and the XC apart from the ground has some fairly suspect sighting of fences!!

Ooooh it's so exciting! So glad she's finally getting to take you out and show you what she can do!

Fingers crossed for you!
And if you ever need a groom (esp if you do take your test and have no-one to help) you can always call on me!

Personally, I have given up on plans after what has happened to FLora.

However best of luck to you and Moon. She looks lovely in her photos, and very much improved since you got her.

Think the 2 day break sounds a bit mean, but even without one of those, you could still have four intros and 1-2 PNs which sounds great.

Hope it all goes according to plan and you both have fun.

Fiona
