Thanks to everyone for your advice, on my previous thread. We decided to give sports bred collies miss as there just seemed to be too many people breeding for pretty colours as a priority and then taking their eye off the ball on health and temperament. With that in mind we went on the hunt for a working bred dog that was also relatively steady and biddable. Our search took us to the other end of the country to Derek Scrimgeour's Killiebrae Sheepdogs. On Friday we took a road trip to Cumbria, from Wiltshire, to go and visit the potential dog and his relatives. All went swimmingly. We were impressed by the set up and Mum was probably one of the nicest dogs I have ever met. This was her first litter but she was very relaxed and confident (pups are 3 weeks old) as well as being very sweet and keen to cuddle up for some fuss. We also met her mother who while slightly different in looks had a very similar biddable temperament.
We had the choice of two dog pups as that was all that was left from the litter. One of them really stood out so we placed a deposit and he can come home to us in 5 weeks time. We can't wait!
Mum (Kitty) and Dad (Norris) are here - http://www.bordercollie.gb.com/gallery_3.html
Our pup is the tri-coloured on the right on page 2. They think he is going to be rough coated. We would have preferred smooth but weren't going to turn down a lovely dog because he was likely to turn out hairier than ideal.

Oh so beautiful. All puppies are lovely but collie pups are fab. Those ears! Having not seen the other thread (I don't think) what are your plans for pup?

Thanks everyone. Clodagh, I am actually not that in to pups but I love dogs! He is going to be our pet. The plan is to come out riding with me (we live on the edge of Salisbury Plain so have loads of fab off road hacking. We will also be doing some obedience and my son would like to do agility too. The plan is just to have fun!

Sounds great. Like you, I am not a puppy fan, too much like hard work (I like looking at other peoples though).
Saying that, I pick up my lab pup in two weeks. :-). At least they aren't puppies for long, look at it that way.

We are going to call him Pippin, Pip for short (which is probably what he will go by on a daily basis). We had the name picked before we had even found any dogs to go and see!
Rachel (Derek's daughter) said she would send us some photos in a few weeks so it will be great to see those. By the time we go and collect him he is going to be nothing like the pup we saw on Saturday.
