And I don't know why. Could one of you offer to look at the add for me, and tell me what is wrong with it...

Haven't put the add on here as it would perhaps be advertising, sorry no link, because we haven't put him on any big websites.

Thanks for any help.

We have dropped the price, to quite cheap IMO. We have him in local tack shops, and driving websites, as we would rather he went locally, or to a driving home. If we don't get interest in the next few weeks think we will give the 'big' sites a try.

You do need to use the websites that everyone looks at: Horsemart (isn't too expensive) Horsehunter (free) Adtrader (free if you are a private advertiser) Horsequest (more expensive) Horsedeals, Adhorse etc. These are the first that spring to mind and the ones I would look at if I were looking.

If I was looking for a pony I'd like to read things like "great to handle by all the family, not strong, snaffle mouth, use to busy family yard (dogs, chickens, pigs, tractors etc), doesn't bite, buck, bolt, rear" etc etc. It's just sort of peace of mind stuff but it would get me to pick up the phone more readily. Pony looks lovely to me, good luck with it.

He 'could' be a novice ride, he doesn't take the pee atall, although wouldn't be ideal for a novice hacking, not spooky, or dangerous, just not relaxed. and he hasn't actually had competition SJ experience although he was very quiet at dressage and never hots up jumping at home. Although he is 140cm (13.3 :p) he rides much bigger due to his built, Im 5'4 in the jumping picture.

Unfortunely alot of those things couldn't be said

. He is super to handle, but bites in the air when being girthed, he is used to family yard though, could add that. He doesn't bite, but swears girthing up, so again don't really think I could say that, he has never considered bolting, or rearing, although he very occasionaly does tiny bucks in canter transitions. Only twice since we had him, and they wern't even bucks, more suspended back legs, but again

. Similar about snaffle mouth, he is very light in the hand ridden, but because hacking ridden he is on edge I personaly perfer to have a kimblewick.
Funnily enough driven he is perfect hacking.

I hope not too, we are also looking at a 12.3 driving trials/ridden pony with a super history, and it has been for sale for months with no interest.

Hi I have the same problem! I have been advertising a 13hh pony on both horsemart and horsedeals with all necessary info included for a couple of months to no avail, he is a young pony and lacks competing experience although has been cr sj, but I do not think he is overpriced as he will be a lovely pony. Good luck with your updated ad.

I think your pony looks fab for the money especially as he drives as well.
It's not just ponies not selling, I have been advertising my warmblood mare for a month or so now with very little interest. Looking at what is advertised I don't think she's overpriced as she hasn't any faults or issues.
It sparked a bit when I offered her to loan with a view to buy but despite 3 phonecalls last week no-one has actually arranged to see her. It is very frustrating.

Things are just not moving too well rght now. I have had a 14.2hh ride/drive for sale for ages, hopefully he is now going tomorrow. He is green and was priced as such, but just no interest. hang in there, a home - the right home - will turn up.

Is it just me, it might be... but 140cm means diddly squat to me - I would be far more likely to respond if I saw the height in hands (unless you want him to go to a driving home and the driving world always talks in cm - if so please ignore my ramblings!!)

ETA - you could say he is suitable for a 2nd pony (if he is) etc - that would help browsers. I might also put the ridden stuff first, as I would imagine there are more people looking for a riding pony than driving or ride & drive.

looks a lovely pony, I think people are looking for 14.2+ height at the moment as the smaller ones no matter how good dont seem to be selling, my sister in law has had her little section a up for ages but no interest. His price I think is more or less right but in all honesty you may have to look to nearer the 2000 mark to sell at the moment :-(
Good luck in finding him a good home!

The market is flat but surely that's not a surprise to anyone, given the larger situation . . .? I'm really amazed so many people seem surprised things are slowing down when all we hear about are costs rising, house prices falling, people not being able to meet their debts etc.

You have to remember with advertising you need to think about why someone would want to buy THAT horse. What does it have to offer that's better/different than other similar horses? So many people seem to think "Well I have to sell so someone has to buy." Um, no. (No one HAS to buy a horse just because someone else needs to sell it. In fact I think unless it's given as a reason for a very reasonable price that actually has the opposite effect!) There are lots of shirts for sale in the world but I don't buy any old one, I buy the one I want. You have to make your horse the one someone will want. So what does the pony do REALLY well? Or look like he might do really well? By all means, put in everything he has to recommend him but concentrate on his superior bits not the average ones. Where do you see this horse going? Write the ad for those potential buyers.

On a general note, as many people have pointed out the horse business is not going to grind to a halt because of the larger situation. What it will mean, though, is that fewer people have the money to spend and more people will want to liquidate their assets, which makes for a buyer's market. So the closer a horse can be to "perfect" for a job (which doesn't mean perfect in every way or for every job) the more likely it will be to sell. Any horse with a hole is certainly going to be a LOT harder to move, priced at any level. (Luckily not everyone agrees on what a hole is.

He looks super!

Try changing the ad to give the ridden bit first and stick him on the Pony Club website. If youcould get him out to a rally that would be fantastic - or lend him to someone who could take him to a rally for you.

what about offering loan with view to buy? People often hang back when they cant really test a pony before buying, especially when there are kids involved and there is likely to be given his height??

What about the BHDTA website? As he seems to have done well at HDT with you. They have a for sale and wanted section, no idea how much it costs though.

He has done PC, with his old owners. That was 2 years ago, but I will put it in. The BHDTA website is free, might as well put him there! Thanks.

Certainly will try and get him on the PC site, but I don't want him going to a real child. A teenager would be fine on him, but the only person we had call wanted him for a 9-year old. I know he is only 13.3, but the thought of my 9-year-old sister doing much more than lead rein on him terrifies me, he would only have to step sideways and she would fall off just because he is so 'big'. A parent-child share he would be ideal for, though.

I am reluctant to put the price down, as we got him for more and since we have had him, although he has aged 2 years he has improved. He is already below what an average pony of his height is advertised for (obviously who knows if they are getting it) and I wouldn't want people to think he had a problem or was a project.

Thanks for the tips.

Things are selling but at much reduced price - I sold my mare to first viewer at probably 20% less than I would have advertised her at this last year. Most response from adtrader and horsemart

What a gorgeous little pony! If I had the money (or he was offered on loan) I'd snap him up in an instant! Although no job at present does mean I can't really start to look for a pony until that has been achieved

No offence, but being realistic, how many teenagers are looking for a 13.3??! Would he not even be suitable as a child's 2nd pony? Even a parent/child share still has to be rideable by the child. I think most people think of a 13.3 as a child's pony, so if you really don't want him going to a child, you are probably going to struggle to find a buyer for him as a riding pony. Driving is different, of course. (Just my opinion and no offence intended!)

No offence taken. Driving people are different, and almost all the under 25's have ponies, as do over half the adults. BYRDs have pony squads up to 16, so most young teens that are inovolded in that are on ponies too. If we had interest from someone for him for a child to ride I guess we would let them try him, but if we didnt think that they were suitable we wouldn't sell him.

Should I put his schooling in? Established leg yeild, collection, medium, shoulder in, simple flying changes about 75% established, very consistant outline(ridden), walk and stand to canter very sharp.

Yeah add it all in, did you bring him to either of the young drivers camps this year?
If i were you i might change the jumping pic, the angle makes him look a bit like a teddy bear(tto me) ^_^ and perhaps put in that the stud hes from has produced loads of internaional driving ponies, and top ridden ponies
