Have a huge grin spread across my face still, Dad had one of his friends come and help us, tbh I never thought we'd get him to load. First 20 minutes we tried with no ropes around his backside, he threw up a fight. Then we began using ropes around his backside, and within 2 minutes he was up in the trailer, and we put up the back ramp with no hassle. He was a little bit frightened coming out, was rushing whilst he was backing out which probably stems from a bad experience. We tried a few times again with the rope around his backside, no hassle at all, went in and we put the ramp up with no problems at all, and he was backing out a lot more slowly and confidently towards the end. The first time we tried without a rope he was perfect, and we loaded and backed out a few times, and he is very confident now! I'm very pleased, we didn't use a pressure halter or chifney, just a plain leather headcollar, leadrope, and two pieces of rope around his backside
Thats great! Its amazing what a rope around the bum does!!!Now you know it works I will definitely try to get a photo of what I do so you can load him on your own if you have anymore trouble.
I never attach ropes to the trailer as this gives less control and I never need more than one person to help, and thats just to put the breech bar across.
TBH if a horse is genuinely frightened then fair enough but if they are just taking the mickey....!!!!!
ETA Do you have front unload? If not you need to twist your dads arm!!! If you do have front unload always use it as otherwise they can get into the habit of shooting backwards.
