Ok, so my soon to be 5yo has never been wonderful with traffic! Anyway I went for a hack today with two friends and their bombproof horses. My old mare used to be a cow bag with traffic bigger than a transit so I naturally still clam up! So we hear the lorry coming behind us (even through all the wind!) , so I jump off and put him in a gateway with the other two nearest the road. Tom was briil just looked and stood there, great so in the process of just moving him to line him up against the verge for me to re mount a bird flies out of the hedge he jumps up in the air and lands on my foot! Owwwccchhhiiieeeee can barely walk. Still we had a lovely ride and he was sooooo good.

Sorry just had to share.

Exactly what mine would do - not blink at an artic or a tractor, but have a heart attack at a squirrel or sheep..! I would personally have preferred to stay on top in either situation, though!

If anybody wants to thoroughly traffic-proof their horses: come out for a hack with us. In any one hack we've got plenty of variety to thoroughly give the boldest rider the *****s: namely working quarry, bridlepath next to main road, bridges crossing dual carriageway, helicopters, local airport, alcoholic farmers on quad bikes, buses letting off air brakes, double-hitched artics rattling down the lanes, ditto every breed of tractor; local yobs on noisy two-strokes using road as rat run, not to mention every pr@t cyclist up your backside, bird-scarers, farmers with shotguns over hedge, ditto lawnmowers, kids on bouncy castle things ...... OK so you get the picture. Its great down here in peaceful Devon ....!!! LOL
