We nearly lost our Fell yearling to colic yesterday we don't what has caused it. He has been wormed regularly and has had 2 clear egg counts including one yesterday but the vets say that it could still be worms. Because of the mild weather the immature worms are migrating earlier and obviously they don't lay eggs and so don't show up on an egg count. So please be extra vigilant with your worming and also noting any unusual behaviour like lying down in the field as that is how we first noticed it.

Feel for you, we lost our 18 month to colic in October, but there were other problems and she first had it at 6 months, having also lost her mum to colic when she was only 3 months caused by probable long term worm damage from before us having her (the mum that is), made us almost paranoid.

Hope you get it under control, but remember if there is a high burden and you are worming then this can also induce colic. Good luck! Thoughts are with you

Thank you for your replies. He was given 50/50 chance last night but he has made a miraculous recovery. I just wanted to pass on the information so that even if 0ne person doesn't know about and it helps to prevent what we went through last night then it will be worth doing. It just shows you can worm and do worm counts to the best of your ability but you can't always protect them completely.
