Hello - this has turned out to be long but please stick with it!

I'm not sure if I am allowed to be posting this but I am going to anyway and hope I don't get into trouble!

Some of you may know about our "Think Before You Breed" campaign. As you will already be aware, every year thousands of low quality foals are bred that face an uncertain future, and they are often the animals that end up as welfare cases further down the line. I won't go into huge detail about it but you can find more info here:

http://www.bhs.org.uk/Horse_Care/Campaigns/Responsible_Breeding.aspx

Obviously this is a massive issue and not one that can be tackled straightforwardly. We have lots of plans that we can put into action but these will need funding. To help with this we have set up the "Drawing the Line" part of the campaign which will involve an auction on October 13th 2010. It will take place at Cheffins in Cambridge and it would be great to see some of you there. However, if anything takes your fancy you will also be able to bid online.

Anyway, a lot of the auction will be artwork (somethings won't be though - like the lesson with David Broome or day at Carl Hester's yard) and this is now starting to roll in. We have had some fab donations from Sally Mitchell Fine Arts and Nikki Moore for example. As we get pictures we are going to add them to our Facebook page - the more people that see them the more likely we are to find people who want to bid. And as all of the money raised will be ringfenced for our responsible breeding work I really want this to be a huge success - it gives us the chance to really change things.

So all I am asking from you guys is to friend us on Facebook and become fans of our group (hope I have the right terminology here, I'm not on it personally) and encourage anyone else you know to do the same. Hopefully this will give us a snowball effect and we will have loads of people seeing the art as it gets added and start saving up to buy something. There isn't much there yet but I guarantee we have some fantastic pictures coming.

If you could help it would be great and much appreciated. Our page is:

And the group is:

Please just take a minute to add us and help spread the word!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to all of you!

Lee

Sorry I'm an oldy and not on facebook. But have you asked H&H to do an article. I don't think your breaking any T & C as charities I think can sort of advertise. Admin hopefully may pin this up as well. Good luck

Flowerlady - I really thought the pics were also on our website but you're quite right that they aren't so I have asked someone to get that sorted (the website is beyond me I'm afraid!). The reason I was hoping to get people to look on Facebook is just that I thought it would be the best way to make more people (perhaps those that would never visit the BHS website) aware of the auction. I think this is such a big issue that I really want this whole thing to be a success so we have plenty to spend on actually achieving something palpable. But you are quite right, Facebook phobics like me and you need to be able to see them too so I will make sure that is addressed!

Rowreach and Kezz, THANK YOU! That is exactly what we need so I really appreciate it (and also anybody else who has helped but not posted).

Done

I've got to say Lee that you do so much for the image of the BHS the way you post on here (in my humble opinion

) so well done you

This is probably so far down the page now that nobody will see it but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everybody who has friended us and helped to spread the word - I really appreciate it.

And a particularly big thank you to Splotchy and Rachmeister for your very kind - and completely undeserved words - you have made me

Happy Christmas and 2010 to everyone!

Not on Facebook I am afraid but I will say this.

I had a friend who had a Crazy Mare when it went lame and had a couple of years off she put it to a local stallion.

Her choice of stallion was defined by one she could hack the mare to. Stallions Sire was known as a right B.....d.

Long Story Short Bred the most evil chestnut mare on the planet nearly killed her a few times was forced to sell it on
think it went to several unhappy homes with clever idiots who felt that all its problems were solvable hence it suffered, she suffered and it should never have happened in th first place.
