well an update on my post a while ago about a mini for a companion for my tb who is having a year off through lameness but also cannot be left out alone. well we borrowed a friends mini shetland. He is a right scruff bag! feet are long, coat is matted. he is 3 years old, and has been out in a field and is prety much ferel. hes been with us for a fortnight and apart from him getting attatched to my mare just as much as P ;-) he is very sweet and is doing his job well.
he has put on some weight (he was rather on the slim side for a shetland!) i havnt been able to catch him since he has been out as he is petrified but he is coming round. On monday i managed to give him a scratch round his neck and under his headcollar (luckily it was left on when he was delivered!) iv been away for my birthday in london and came back today and he let me give him a groom :-D Im hoping to get him happy enough to have his feet trimmed as they are desperate! tb thinks hes 3 again and has been playing with him but dinks has been hanging off his neck so tb has a patchwork quilt of bites on his neck! the mare isnt so keen on him! she is now fenced away on her own as she was causing problems and getting to fat!

Try feeding him out in the field with your other horse, mine shares buckets with Shy now, and I sit by them just watchiing. He's so friendly, he hates to be left in the field alone, they do adore peeps given half a chance.

He's totally gorgeous btw;)
 
He's gorgeous! But take care hun because (usually) a TB's grazing needs and a shetlands are at opposite ends of the spectrum. You don't want the little lad going down with laminitis.

iv got my beady eye on him. he goes in a fatty paddock in the day and will wear a muzzle overnight when they go out when he is happy for me to fiddle with his head. He was rather skinny when he came (for a shetland anyway!) he has put on abit of weight slowly but he does need worming to! hes prob never been wormed
iv never been a shettie fan but he is winning me over. he is a little toad to lead mind! took two of us with two lead ropes, but again, he would never had done it before and was prob scared!
