Today, like usual I went to the yard to do some jobs for the YO in return for getting to fuss Neddy (She would let me fuss Ned without doing jobs, but I like to help out
)
Anyway, I was busy grooming Neddy when she came over and said "You can go in the school if you like, or maybe even try hacking him? It's up to you" I said I didn't feel up to that yet, but I would walk him in-hand onto the yard just to get him used to it.
So I finished grooming and put his dually on and his lunge and I tried walking him onto the front yard. He was having none of it!! When I finally got him to take a few steps forwards, he spun and squashed me against the wall! (Luckily I was wearing my BP!)
I wasn't going to let him defeat me, so I regained control and walked him on again. This time he followed, but he was obviously scared and putting all his trust in me, the poor boy was shaking! We had a wander around the front yard and he sniffed, snorted and was still shaking.
After a few mins in the yard (and after some polos!) he stopped shaking, but was still on edge. I then took him over to the road outside, which is a very scary road (Not for him, but for me! It's meant to be 40, but no one goes that slow)
He had a look up and down the road and snorted. I saw a van coming so I stroked and patted him, talking to him quietly. The van went past and he didn't even look at it!!
A few cars went past and even a bus :O he didn't move a muscle!!
I was going to turn back then, but I thought since I had a while before my lift was going to arrive, we might as well have one last push! So I walked him across the road into a very nice little quiet lane. This is a perfect lane as it does a very short loop back to the yard again, so I wouldn't have to turn back on myself.
He only spooked once at some ducks who decided to take off when we were next to them
Apart from that he was a star!!!
I couldn't believe how nicely he walked with me and how brave he was! We even went through a ford :O (luckily I had my Dublins on, or I would have had very wet feet!!)
I'm just so proud of him
He's really coming on so well!!
