As some of you know I was considering taking my horse out on our first hack alone! Well we really didn't go far at all, like 5 minutes down the road. But I could tell she was petrified and she was an absolute angel! I debated going further but didn't want to push her, she stood still for traffic and was just a star. We then went in the school and she popped over her first cross pole like it was nothing and she even did some turn on the forehand! She might be spooky and silly but she is so clever and willing and I love her to bits! We will go a bit further ever time and we will be going out for hours in no time! What a great start to the new year!

Thank you to those of you that encouraged me to go for it! I couldn't be any happier right now!!! :)

Well done! Am in the process of backing a nervous mare, so fully appreciate how much these things mean. She's also willing, despite being scared. We went out a couple of days ago alone and were out for 40 minutes! You'll soon be at that stage.

Out of interest, do you also mutter sweet nothings to your mare and tell her continuously what a pretty/clever/brave girl she is for the duration of your outing, or is it just me? :D

I read your post earlier today and wondered if you went out :)

A HUGE well done, as you said, small steps each time and in no time you'll be going out for lovely long hacks.

Thank you everyone! It means a lot! :)

Fransurrey I did it all the way! She will do anything if you praise her bless her! :)

Good luck it will be worth it if you take it slowly if thats how it suits her. Practice makes perfect and it really is worth it to have an allrounder. It makes life more interesting too.

Well done! So pleased it went well for you - what a great way to start the year! You'll be doing long hacks alone in no time - little and often is all it takes :)
