M the welsh D has a cr*p forelock, its like baby hair really thin and dull, has anyone tried anything to increase condition of hair? I was thinking about argon oil as that is what I use for my hair, I cant use sprays with him as he's 'sensitive' (soft a*se). Also his mane is great cant fault it, lovely and thick!

Also, because I trim his mane and never trim his forelock because its so weedy do you think that's why? because its not having regular trims? I know my hair grows better when its cut regular.

Thoughts!!!

I used to use this on my old ponies mane than had sweet itch. It's supposed to help rebuild the mane and encourage a thicker, fuller mane. It also smells lovely like coconuts :)

Another vote for Megatek, it's made a big difference to my horse's mane

As a last resort, you might have to take some out of his mane and make a false forelock that you can stitch in for shows?

use a UV filter spray on a daily basis to stop the sun bleaching/weakening it and rub a small amount of pig oil in a few times a week.............have found pig oil better than megatek.

and yes, trim the dead ends lightly!

Ive used megatek on it and supreme products mane and tail rebuilder, works perfect for the mane but not for the forelock! Grrrr! Friend at yard has a cob with a dales like mane, it might be missing some next week...... lol!

i use quikscreen and buy it from arabian emporium but i know she struggled to get it last time so you might have to buy it in the US.

the people ones are expensive for small bottles, the other option is a dog one so maybe ask on some doggy forums!

Not sure if you are talking in general or for a competition and you want a bigger forelock plait.

There are thickening shampoos on the market but not sure if they would work on horses as their hair is a very different structure to ours. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=thickening+shampoos&FORM=HDRSC2

If you are talking about plaits then if your horses tail is very long you can cut a bit off, plait it and make it into a false plait. I have done this with my horse whose tail is currently an inch off the floor (have to cut it about every 2 months!). I've yet to try the false plait but normally his forelock when plaited resembles a raisin!

Or you can buy a falsie from here http://www.fyldesaddleryltd.com/product.php/false_forlock/?k=:::3717400:0

Thanks for that apple cart but he's a section d so no plaiting, I think we would have too much for plaiting lol. Think I might have to invest in a false forelock x

My YO took on a Connemara about 8 months ago that had been allowed to rub so much that he had no mane. She washed it regularly in Show Ready restore shampoo and he literally has more mane and forelock than a highland now! It's super strong and not at all dry anymore

He is the first pony on their website banner but unfortunately the picture was taken to show his whiteness not his mane growth so it's the wrong side :D

I was my mare's mane twice a weak in tea tree shampoo, and then use cowboy magic rose water conditioner mixed with megatek afterwards.

After washing run Argan oil through the mane and mane had grown massively.

With clever use of a comb can you pinch a bit from the mane by brushing it forwards between the ears? the bridle will make it less obvious and it has the benefit of showing off the gullet

be careful not to brush too much, and only with a soft brush to avoid pulling hair out. Trim the ends with scissors regularly and I haven't used it, but hear megatek is great stuff!

A cheat is to bring the mane forward in to the forelock. I once had literally no hair to plait for the forelock due to sweet itch, so I French plaited some mane forwards and used that, it looked pretty neat !
