Ok so had another lesson last night and despite Pidge being a git since we went to Someford Park he started off amazing

dropped, lifted, soft etc and instructor (who judges) said she would give him an 8 for it

however as he is still finding it hard to work like this he doesn't do it for that long. When he's had enough he has a habit of leaning lots on the left, which just so happens to be because my left leg is weaker than my right

so have been working hard on this and his topline has improved no end and he has lost some of the muscle he had underneath his neck. So how do I improve my left leg? When I get tired it tends to drift forwards so then comes off him. Any advice much appreciated

Is it worth talking to a sports injury physio and asking about exercises to improve leg strength?
I've got a buggered left knee and whilst its not good again at the moment my physio has been really helpful in the past (- I can't get a good canter with that leg).
When the knees working (!!) I do lots of work with resistance bands to build that leg up and stretch my ligaments and muscles.

could be worth a go.
daft thing is I did the knee ligaments in on my right leg (I was sober that time

) but with all the riding it has helped strengthen the muscle around the knee as last time I tweaked it it only took a day or two before it was better. used to take weeks to get better.
Not sure if the ankle is the problem though as since tearing the ligaments I have never had any problems since, but my knee has caused lots of problems.
What are resitance bands?

I don't know if thats the proper name for them but i got a set from Argos quite cheap. They're like big, thick, strong elastic bands (I've got 3 of differing resistances).
I use them to do resistance work with my leg, I also use a balance ball (again cheap from Argos) with them sometimes. My physio showed me some moves and they seem to help.

This won't help you but it sounds like I have exactly the same problem with my right leg! I just can't get it 'on' the horses side as well as my left which I really feel I can wrap around. In fact, my right leg feels feeble compared to the other one. I too overstreched ligaments but in both ankles - (I fell off my high heels while clubbing many moons ago).

I bought a contraption called a leg master or thigh master to try and tone up my inner thighs but got bored of using it so it's permanently folded away at the mo. Wonder if this would help?

don't carry a whip when schooling as never had need with him. It's not a case of him not responding to my leg more of my leg not being effective

perhaps didn't make that clear! He is very sensitive to the leg.
