My yearling is now 15 months old, for several reasons I just haven't split her from her mum, I suppose hoping mum would just say enough, no more!!. But she hasn't. She has been back in work since xmas and baby happily stays behind with my other mare and is desperate to feed as soon as mum gets back.
They have had a few days in adjoining fields with no problems, being back together for the night.
Today I have decided to bite the bullet and they have spent the day apart and I have left them apart for tonight. They can see and touch over a sturdy elec fence and don't seem bothered, baby has stood by fence a bit but then goes off grazing with her auntie.
The question I have is, Dottys udder was pretty full tonight and will probably get bigger overnight. Do I just leave it and it will naturally go down and eventually stop producing milk. I don't want to make her realy uncomfortable all of a sudden or should I have done more to prepare her?. As you can tell, this is my first foal, but not Dottys and she must treally love her babies to keep feeding them this long!!!
