planning ahead... iv got a 14.2hh pony who is due march. i am keeping mum and baby and they will always live together. question is should i wean baby even if he/she will be living with mum 4 the rest of her life?

my good friend who has been breeding for over 50 years leaves the mare and foal together if he is going to keep the foal, personal choice i think

I would personally wait and see if the mare weans the foal herself. If she doesn't then it would be a good idea to intervene.

I would say let the mare wean the foal herself, obviously more natural and less stressful perhaps?

my two are still together-bey is now 10months old and she still drinks at least once when i see her(generally for an hour once a day)
i still take mum out for rides etc so they arent bothered by having time appart.
