Well everything went to plan. Loaded Ebi and Willow on Sunday. Took them both to my instructors yard. Unloaded and bobbed Willow in the stable whilst Ebi had her feet done - tied up outside the stable. So then bobbed Ebi in the same stable whilst we had a drink and a chat. Willow went mad as if shed not seen Ebi in hours - dive bombed the milk bar

Silly foal.

So drank up, got Ebi out of the stable and left instructor with Willow in stable. Loaded Ebi and drove home. She called a good few times, then when quiet. As soon as we got to the yard she started calling again but as soon as I put her out in the field she wasnt in the slightest bit bothered!!!

And subsequently is bothered that Willow isnt around.

shed obviously had enough of her

Willow on the other hand found it completely stressful. Ended up getting very stressed and sweaty. Instructor had to go round to all the neighbours houses to tell them what she had got in the stable and why it was so noisey

Monday morning she had calmed down a little - made a tip of her bed and not really eaten but soon tucked into her brekkie!! She called a few times then that was it. If someone comes to the gate she calls and if she hears someone walking either onto the yard or down the road behind the stables she calls but doesnt get stressed.

Went to see her on Tuesday night and instructor had taken her out for a walk. Shed met some very scary sheep and cows which she found very interesting, then she went to play with the artic lorries which were in the mill behind the instructors yard. She bounced once then decided it was all alright.

So were going to have 1 brave baby when she arrives home

Roll on the shows!

quick question though. Is it usual for some mores to drip milk once the weaning process has started? She is only having happy hoof and a few high fibre cubes, to keep her occupied when Sasha gets her feed. She doesnt have much grass in the field but does have access to adlib haylage. is this ok? do I need to feed her anything to dry her up? someone recommended epsom salts?

Yes it is normal for them to drip a little bit initially. Just make sure you cut down on her feed for the next few weeks.

Glad everything went well.

cheers Tia. What do you recommend giving her? I really want to make sure she doesnt get mastitis as she has only ever had 1 side of her bag working due to mastitis in the other side. The side she was feeding off wasnt that huge whe we seperated her, however it swelled up the first day for obvious reason. It had gone done loads last night and was dry on the end of her teet but was swollen up again tonight with milk droplets.

Well everyone does things differently, but when I am trying to get the milk to dry up, I stop feeding hard feed straight away. I only give hay....but maybe I am a skin-flint, LOL!!
