Has anyone else had any experience with their horse having to wear a cast because of a coronary band injury. I brought my young horse in from the field and noticed he had blood down his hoof. I hosed it straight away. I must have caught it almost straight away as the wound was very clean. He has a roughly 1.5 inch cut on his coronary band and has lifted the skin half an inch wide above the band. I called the vet straight away, he had to sedate him and dressed the wound and gave me antibiotics etc. He said the wound would have to be dressed for a week and then he would be allowed out in a very small paddock. Yesterday another vet came to see him (from the same practice) and he looked at the wound and said he was pleased with it but wants to put a cast on him to immobilise the leg and he will need to be box rested for a further 3 weeks. Has anyone had any experience of a cast?
