Weather for riding

I know I won’t be on the majority here but if I can’t have 20’ warm with gentle breeze today has proved I’d much rather warm wet than cold and bright. Really wet ride today but feet not blocks of ice! With appropriate clothing wet is ok!

There’s no heating in tack room. If I get all tack & riding stuff wet in winter I have to put it all in car & dry it at home. Husband hates smell. I do, do it, but it is a deterrent.

Definitely prefer cold and dry. In fact any temperture and dry!!
I am saying this while it is absolutely chucing it down outside!

Today was vile - horizontal sleet - ugh The horses weren't impresed either - lots of rolkur exhibited as they tried to hide their heads between their knees, whilst also bending sideways like a banana

I've tried to ride for a week it's either frozen or really windy next week looks bloody freezing again.

Mine don't enjoy freezing wind and rain they try to run home

Snow is pretty but after half a day I’m fed up and want it to melt so I can ride.
We have a lot of snow and current temps look like it won’t be gone for a week. Sigh!

I much prefer cold and dry too, although I had such a cold ride on the weekend that I've decided I definitely need to invest in some heated socks!

I prefer mild and damp, too.

With an EMS horse, life is much easier and can continue as normal!

I got some for Christmas. The battery pack is a bit too bulky for riding boots, they are nice under wellies. But the do keep the wellies warm as I leave them tucked in while I'm riding. Heated insoles are better but are not reusable so it would be expensive for every day.

I did buy myself a pair of heated socks recently - they work very well for when doing jobs on the yard in muck boots but as mentioned a little too bulky for riding boots. Might be looking at getting some heated gloves as well!

I always say - no such thing as the wrong weather just wrong clothes! A good waterproof coat, a snood to cover your face, thick gloves, thick jodhs (or coat that covers your legs!) and thick socks. I've also treated myself to the Harry Hall fleece lined riding boots - not the most stylish but now I'm rehabbing my horse back into work/turnout, I'm glad I'm toasty when we can just walk up and down the drive!
My old horse used to do his best work in the rain!

I have field kept ponies, so only have to ride if I feel like it. I won't intentionally set off in rain, but find that if it rains while I am out it is ok. I avoid really windy or foggy weather as I feel that I lose the important senses of hearing and seeing, and I won't ride on icy roads, which is fairly frequent as I ride in the early morning and keep the ponies on a very minor untreated rural road.
Me and my pony both enjoy the natural break from intensive riding over the proper winter months, and every ride we get in is a bonus!
