I was working on the yard yesterday, finishing off the mucking out that hadn't got done in the morning. Cos I do sole charge it was about 2:00 and very quiet, just me and the 20odd horses we have in at the moment and most of them were muching hay.

Suddenly, it all went dark and they sky turned a wierd colour of purple and I felt the pressure drop. All the horses got really restless and started moving about in their boxes clattering around. The horse on the yard (who's box I was cleaning) started to skitter about... I could feel myself tensing up as well but I didn't know why.

Then suddenly the Heavens Opened and a massive hailstorm started. I ran over to grab the horse on the yard and rushed her back into her box, then sheltered in the tackroom for a couple of minutes. All the horses were really restless and distressed. Then gradually they calmed down, the sky cleared, the pressure rose again and the sun came out.

It was wierd and spooky the way the weather changed so suddenly and the way all the horses reacted. being alone on the yard I really felt it too. [shudders] very perculiar.

Anyone else experience anything like this lately with the bizzaro weather?

In the summer last year a really bad storm passed directly over our village. Unfortunatley ithe lightening killed my two horses and one down the lane ahd to be put down as it paniced and ran into a wall breaking its shoulder. The bangs were so loud it was terrifying. I have never been that bothered before but it was like bombs going off when the lightening struck. You dont realise how loud it is until you have heard it. About 5 minutes before it struck my horses me and my sister were sat in the car - thought it was the safest place to be - thats how bad it was - and i felt this kind of pressure building up inside my head. It was really wierd and it got more and more and then went off. I didnt realise at the time, it was only afterwards when i mentioned it to my sister and she looked it up on the internet that we found out that it was linked to the storm and it went off as it passed over. Something to do with the electrical charge in the air - very wierd feeling and not one i would like to experience again.

I am now needless to say very wary of storms and hope that i am never that close to one again. It was lucky that a person wasnt killed that night. If i had gone out in it to try and get the horses in it would have killed me to.

Unfortunatley i think things like this will become more common due to global warming.

Spooky indeed .... So sorry to hear about your horses

It was like the time of the tsunami , there was no animal casualties , horses sense something, humans just arent as quick though unfortunately

We get that sort of weather all the time here. I'm on the North Devon coast and many a time I've been poo pick in a t-shirt one minute and sheltering from a horrendous hail storm the next!!

I know its wierd. the horses werent stood under a tree sheltering which you would think they would in the pouring rain that was coming down at the same time. They were stood right in the middle of the field nowhere near anything. I'm sure they have a sixth sense that tells them where to go/what to do. Think mine were just unlucky.

That's awful, your poor horses.

thankfully mine was just a brief pressure drop, I would hate to be around a storm of those proportions. I hate load noises at the best of times and the tension in the air before a storm really gets to me.

We had photography last lesson, same thing happened. o_o The sky went purple and dark, and everyone just sort of went silent...

I was watching The Lion king the other day with my lil sis (eg. my excuse for watching kiddy films) and this reminds me of the part when Simba sees his dad's ghost in the sky xD Rafiki (the baboon) says 'Was that the weather?! Very peculiar...."

My fave line in the whole film xD I love that ape...
