Just read we are in for the worst winter in over 100 years, with snow in just a few weeks time, persisting on and off until February! Apparently the jet stream is in the wrong place and we are in for a rough winter as a result. :(
Was going to clip my hairy girl but might leave her woolly having heard that!
 
They cant even get the forecast right for the next day let alone weeks in advance, i wont be digging out the winter woolies just yet. Its still nice & warm here in the day.
 
They say this every year the press just love to harp on about the weather,the last two years have been pretty bad its winter thats what happens its cold and it snows.
 
Bring it on!!! Can't wait. Have a hay mountain, a new indoor turn out and barefoot snow monster. I love it. Bring on the snow. I want feet of the stuff and as soon as possible.

Same here! Stocked up and ready. Sitting twiddling thumbs waiting on the stuff. Mind you, it could be me entering my dotage, but it is not getting dark earlier than usual? Odd.
 
Since when have the forcasters been right and so far ahead, they can't even get the next week right. Stock up just in case BUT don't dwell on it. What will be will be so long as our 4 legged friends are healthy :-)
 
Bring it on. It doesn't bother me a bit. Although I don't have the horses at home, they are only a mile away and on the few days we had it really bad here last winter, I would take the dogs with me early, walking up the road which is usually a NSL rat run. all off lead playing in the snow drifts as cars weren't venturing out yet :-)

I LOVE it cold. Horses never mind either as I tend to layer rather than just stick huge rugs on, so I can always make sure they are warm and comfortable but not insulated like the Michelin man. It can be annoying of course for the little things and there are always the days when I can't exercise them the way I'd like to, but hoping I have a solution for that this winter :-)

Also, in total honesty....having the Land Rover with the tyres on it and our waffle boards in the back means me and Dan can go snow driving around all of the untouched lanes on virgin snow. It's awesome and the dogs get so excited. Saffie literally runs, head down, mouth open like a snow plough in it until it all balls up in her mouth and then she chomps down on it. Will have to get it on video this year :-)
 
What a load of rubbish! Whatever you do, do not listen to james madden, every year he predicts this! He's not a professional meteorologist and has no scientific evidence of his claims. No one will know what this winter will bring till we find out what the state of the polar stratosphere is at the end of the month/mid November and even that isn't guaranteed. So many factors influence our weather in the uk it's just not possible to predict that far ahead. However, with a ENSO neutral possible winter, low solar activity and above average increase in Eurasia snow cover, things are looking interesting for perhaps a below average winter, it's just how much below (if at all) and when it will happen.
 
There is a foot of snow lying on the ground in Chamonix centre today, that is very early snowfall and could be a sign of things to come!

There is also a foot lying on the Cairngorms!

Well I ignore press reports and just try to deal with each days weather as it comes. My lad is now housed opposite my house, I have loads of hay and will manage. I personally dislike snow but at least the fields are not getting trashed whilst it is around!
 
My boy grew into a yeti early September, much sooner than usual. I reckon we'll get it cold but who knows. -17c the other year and feet of snow and ice and we all lived ! Even my clio made it to the yard :)
 
I am of the mind, what will be will be. I would rather have snow than knee deep mud for months if I'm honest. Horses are on livery, but yard is only 4 miles away, so could walk if absolutely had to. YO is brilliant, and we can turn out for a bit each day so they all get legs stretched if we want to. Some of the fields are over a road, which can be icy and dangerous to cross, but if that is the case, we generally share the fields that are accessible, and have an hour or so each. The school is well maintained, and useable to. The taps do freeze, but there is one tucked away that can be kept going, so I have the big water container to ferry water back and forth.

Work is also about 4 miles away, in the opposite direction, so again, can walk. Do have a land rover, so never been reduced to walking yet thankfully.
 
The Daily Express is obsessed with weather, that and house price rises. Don't believe a word of it.

They don't get it right from one day to the next and you can't change the weather anyway so no point worrying.
