Morning

I maybe having a "blonde" moment here so apologies if this sounds stupid. I am looking to replace my weatherbeeta medium weight combo turnout which I have had for 9 years( I think its a landa) I would like to replace it with exactly the same rug but theses days they seem to have a whole variety of rugs very similar apart from the price!

Does anyone know which of these styles replaced the landa?

or any recommendations?

Thank you :-)

I'd say the freestyle. The genero is their cheap range. Doesn't have leg gussets
They are good but doubt theyd last like the old rugs. I still have a 12yr old taka going strong :)

When my landa finally died I replaced it with the genero. As mentioned above, it doesn't have leg gussets and isn't as good a quality bit it's half the prices of the other styles so you get what you pay for. My horse is generally good with his rugs so was ok for me :-)

LOL...I know how you feel OP,,..there's that many 'names' going round that it's confusing at best!

I'm a big fan of Weatherbeeta's as they've always been a good fit on my boy. I replaced my old WB with an Amigo 1200D 'no fill' rug (together with a neck attachment which I preferred as wanted the option to use this rug as just a standard rug without the neck).

To this rug, I added a 100gm 'insulator' layer rug that are made for these rugs which just clips on underneath this no fill rug and voila... you have a cosy LW turnout! Happy horse who's not too warm and I have the option to take the insulator layer out if needs be.

They do the insulator layers in 100/200 and 300gms from memory and I'd be happy to buy these two other layers in the future if I ever needed to.

One thing I'm really impressed with is the security of these clip-in insulators as they do not move at all and are really easy to put in/take out and easy to wash too!

Hope that helps you a little!

I do have an Axiom Medium weight combo rug that's a good rug and fits by boy well too (he's a traddy cob that gets clipped out in winter) and it's a very cosy rug for those 'minus degree' temperatures if/when they come about. I didn't need to use this rug very much at all last year as it was too warm for him with the mild winter that we had last year....but just another one to perhaps have a look at. I got this off Ebay and the rugs was posted from Burnley in Lancashire and the postage cost was very reasonable.

Thanks :-) yes I have to agree I don't think the newer weatherbeeta`s are as good as they used to be but they do fit my ISH well, I am disappointed with the heavyweight JHL rug I recently bought and horseware rugs seem to rub and not fit as well.

I do need a combo rug as have others with detachable necks which I actually am not keen on

On this occasion I do have to budget!!

I have always bought weatherbeeta but am very disappointed that its only the freestyle range that now has a detachable neck and then its all Velcro and fiddly! I have this year bought an Amigo lightweight with a detachable neck and am delighted with it, I am also going to get the 250g for the colder weather again with the detachable neck, and also the insulator rug so I can up the warmth if I need to. Its a shame as I really like wb but I want rugs with detachable necks as my appy has worn his mane off so need to have the option to leave off the neck as much as possible and find the freestyle leaks at the front if I leave the neck off. WB used to do a great neck which just clipped on but they have stopped this now, so maybe now I will have to get more Amigo rugs!!

I love the Weatherbeeta Freestyle rugs! I have most of the range because it fits my boy so well.

If your Landa has shoulder darts at the front and the large tail flap then you want the Freestyle Medium, if your Landa has shoulder darts at the side and a standard tail flap then you want the Original Medium. :)

Thanks that's very helpful, will look at it tonight :-) I love all my old WB rugs

Must admit I've never been a fan of 'detachable' necks,...but this Amigo one I'm very impressed with!..which is a first for me :). It's more than long enough over the wither area to give a good covering where rug meets neck attachment and I'm happy with the way it fits on and fits my boy too.

Happy Shopping Alchemy!

Will have a look at them too then :-) I just find that some of them slip and leave a gap thus letting in rain. right whilst I am at work I shall browse the internet :-)

You can get both Landa original and freestyle versions ( I have both!)
My daughters loan horse has a genero heavy turnout- they have no shoulder gusset at all so I would steer well clear personally until they got one! I was really quite impressed. It didn't rub all winter and she only had that one rug so it was worn daily (they have a swanky drier!) Its lasted really well, still looks fairly new and kept her lovely and warm. I believe they are also 1200D as opposed to Landa's 600d outer so possibly actually better?

Right I have been on line and now thinking its either the amigo Horseware Amigo Hero 6 Plus Medium Turnout Rug which has a neck or the weatherbeeta original ? although now discovered they do a 1200D OR 600D which is just the strength of the outer layer right?

cant decide :-( a useless and making a decision!

Sorry to hijack but how do the weatherbeeta rugs fit? Mine fits a 6ft6 in shires. How big are they around the shoulders as some seem to drown my boy at the front but are a miniskirt at the back? :) Thanks! :)

It's Up to you....but whichever you choose, I'd strongly advise going for the 1200D..

Admittedly, we're very lucky in that our horses aren't rug rippers, but my Orican and Landa came with my old mare who I bought five years ago, and they weren't new then. My current mare is about to go into these rugs for her third winter and they're still as good as new.

I'd be so disappointed if I found out the quality of Weatherbeetas had deteriorated, because I've bought other rugs but they don't hold a candle in terms of fit, durability and quality

Thank you! :) That does help! He has an old WB stable rug with neck which is 6 ft and fits perfectly but his 6 ft fleece was tiny! So I was a bit baffled. Hence asking in comparison to his 6ft6 shires turnout! Thank youuuuuu :D
