I need a non-rippable rug. T is a right pansy and, unlike the rest, will need rugged most of the winter. Unfortunatly he lives with a horse who's very favourite game is to play with the other horses rugs, little *$&"^.

I'm therefore looking for a high denier rug 1600+denier.

£150 is the maximum budget (any more than that and I'd be better off buying shedloads of super-cheap rubbish!)

Want a full neck, ideally an all in-one. Needs to be deep. Newer 'freestyle' WB don't suit his shape. I do love the weatherbeeta extra large tail flaps however. A middleweight ideally but doesn't really matter as I'm dab hand with a sewing maching and can easily take some of the filling out.

Found the weatherbeeta Tristar and it looks good. The 100g outer would be perfect for all but the coldest days.

My only concerns are : how well does the liner rug stay in place under the top rug? T likes to play rough and tumble with his friends all day.

Whats the detach-a-neck like? How's it attached? I've never seem on in the flesh. Hopefully it's not like the stupid traditional neck covers that flip up when their heads down and lets all the rain in?

Or can anyone reccomend other very high denier fullneck rugs that stay in one piece?!

I recommend Premier Equine winter busters. 1650d balistic nylon and you have the choice of a fixed neck and a detatchable, deep too. They are cheap compared to other balistic nylon rugs so its not the end of the world if they get trashed. Balistic nylon is , IMO, the strongest material for rugs. I don't rate WB I'm afraid and would have Fal or Rambo if I could afford them. PE rugs are very good value.

I love my Tristar. Had it on my horse since they first came out. Mine lives out all year round and has worn the 100g outer most of the summer and the liner keeps him cosy over winter (even hunter clipped like last year and he's a slim built TB x).

The liner clips onto the outer so it stays perfectly central, its never slid on my horse. Its extremely lightweight (even though warm - I just have the one which comes as standard) and very easy to throw in the washing machine.

The neck is good. Its spacious enough without letting in too much wind etc. It doesnt flip up as it attaches by velcro by big strips either side so there not really any gap. Its 10 tens better than the gastly Rambo Duo neck bit that I tried (I sold the nasty rug to get the Tristar in the end!).

It never leaks, the tail flap is massive and clips good quality so I highly recommend it. Well worth the money.
