Hi all

Am after a bit of advice - Lucky never used to weave, however I noticed she had started around the time she had laminitis in 2010. She weaved if others were fed and she wasn't or when others were turned out and she wasn't.

She's carried on doing this when she in, however today I noticed she's done it all morning. Unfortunately shes slightly lame on her left front leg so can't go out but is there anything I can do to ease her boredom and help with the weaving?

She usually lives out 24/7 apart from weekends (she comes in Friday and Saturday nights) and the night before a show/outing.

She has plenty of hay when she's in and she's fed twice a day, at weekends she gets an extra bucket of pony nuts and veg about 12 but during the week I make the feeds up for the others in advance so have no spare buckets and there's no one up there to give it to her.

She's in on her own at the moment between 6am and 6pm, she is better when she has company unless they are fed/turned out and she's not but we have no others that we can really keep in with her.

I think you've answered your own question she need entertainment and prefers company, is there nothing that could be in next to her? Or how about a mini turnout paddock the same size as a stable so she can be 'out' and see friends while still limited exercise.
Failing that you could try a stable mirror or treat ball/ licket but if she's really bored and lonely they probably won't help much

Unfortunately our field isn't near the yard, it's the other end of the lane to the farm.

None of our other horses are in as they also prefer been in and the one that is in every night is out during the day hence why she's on her own from 6am until 6pm.

I'm going to get her some extra veggies tonight as she goes through likits in 10 minutes :(. I've looked at the stable mirrors but it says you need a flat wood wall to put them on - our stables are 'open' so they can all see each other, the only side thats not open is blocked with alluminium trailer flooring - would they stick to that?

Does the horse 'need' to be in? unless it was something extremely serious i wouldnt keep a horse in. I'd prefer horse out with a sensible companion as gentle movement will help the body to heal quicker.

I've been advised to keep her in for a few more days.

Unfortunately we have no where to section her off as we don't have our own yard, ours are all out together (apart from the one whos in at night) in two large fields and we feed in the field, she will also go through thewhite if there's no electric.

We also can't have any other animals in a stable next door, the only animals we have on the yard are cows and chickens

I'm going to get her some veggies and a treat ball, and will see how she goes
