Hi I have a 5yo 16.1hh ISH mare who weaves...alot! When I went to see her before I bought her she never weaved once, although I was told she weaved at mealtimes. I have no idea why she does it, she has ad-lib hay when in, likit and stable ball. She often weaves when tied up outside too! Do you think a stable mirror would help?

no she doesnt but when she was in a different stable she weaved at a window in the back of her box so i dont know whether weave bars would help

How much turnout does she get? I know a mare who weaved at a window in her stable but she also couldn't be stabled overnight because she would compulsively weave and fret. She had to live out.

How long have you had her? Some horses that weave do it more when moved, as it is a form of anxiety. When they settle down they do it less.

I had a mare that would weave, and she would sometimes weave in the field, by the gate, if something upset her - a trailer coming into the yard, she didn't like the field she was in (that happened in the really wet winter when I was fencing them in to whatever bit of ground I could find).

I made everything in the stable as welcoming as possible - a window, ad lib food, and let her out as much as possible, although she did survive a week's box rest OK. So a stable mirror might be a very good idea. You do have to site it in the right place, so as not to frighten them.

When I sold my mare the new owner moved her f rom the first livery yard, where she weaved all the time (!) to another one, where the stables did not come right to the roof, so she had a very good view all around, and she doesn't weave at all now.

She was a good horse, so it was just one of those things that I and the new owner put up with.
