One of our boy's wee changes colour while he is peeing. First it is yellow and clear, then it goes vivid (is that right word?) yellow and cloudy, then right at the end it goes pale yellow and cloudy. He seems to only pee once during the time he is in (out at night) usually when I feed him at about 2.30, he comes in at 8am and goes back out at 3.30ish.
He drinks normally and is well in his self, he never struggles to pee or anything.
I've never notice if any of the other horse's pee changing colour, but I don't normally watch them pee the whole time, I just check the colour is normal.
Do you think it is something to worry about, I've never heard of it before?

No, I don't think this amount of interest in your horse's wee is normal...you need to get out more!
I have heard though

that horse urine is often different shades of yellow to pale brown, and cloudiness is not a problem.
You only need to worry if he is dehydrated, or the urine looks dark red as this can indicate azoturea (it is also supposed to 'smell of violets' but I'm never that tempted to find out, myself).
Happy wee watching!

Horses wee is often different colours at different stages of the wee itself.

I am one of the 'perverts' who catches the wee when they come into the stable (to save on the bedding).

Merlins always goes darker and more cloudy as he gets to the end..... I think you are very normal

Right. Something good may yet come out of this zany thread! I need a wee sample from my mare to test for pregnancy (don't ask...she was rescued from a staggeringly ignorant and neglectful home) and I don't know how to go about it!!!! I am NOT, repeat NOT standing behind her with a jug for 12 hours. I don't have a handy tap I can run to encourage urination (YO would kill me). I have tried whistling. I have tried fresh shavings. Short of taking her down to the local pub and getting about 20 pints of lager inside her, does anyone have any tried and tested ideas????????
