Hi all,

Over winter, I have moved into a new property with our own land attached. Now that things are growing, some weeds have reared their ugly heads including the broadleaf dock, nettles, thistles and buttercups to name but a few. The land had been overgrazed by the previous owner and left in a poor condition.

There is one weed which I have no idea what it is and hope someone here has had it or knows what it is. I have linked some pictures (because the board wont let me use attachments). If you do know what it is please give me a clue because I dont want to put the horses out if this is poisonous to them.

If the field has been overgrazed with horses I would be inclined to manage it in two halves, one side for horses with hay to supplement.
Weekilling on the other half, using a backpack sprayer [calm day] to kill off buttercups and dock,, obviously horses must not get in to this area, maybe a double electric fence.
I don't mind a few thistles or chickweed, ordinary green nettles grow where soil is fertile eg. where there was once a muckheap. They can be cut.

Make sure you kill ragwort AND a week later remove it. the rosette leaves are very characteristic. Check again a week later, and again before turnout.

You might want to put either a bit of fertiliser with magnesium or a bit of dolomite [limestone with magnesium] just to sweeten things up, this can be done just after the spray.
Without seeing the field it is difficult to be more specific, you want a few herbs, and mixed grass species and not a grass monoculture.
