So...I’m having an argument with OH about this and I could do with some objective opinions, here goes!

We’ve had Jilly for 2 years now (she was a rescue case – think she’s about 4) and as we both work, Jilly comes to work with me.

I work about 10 miles out of town so our normal routine is: 1hr walk in the woods behind my office first thing (8am-9am), then another hour rampaging in the woods at lunchtime (usually in the river too – ruddy Spangle!), a quick pee at about 3pm then a half hour more sedate walk in the park in the evening. While I’m at work she sleeps in the car – it’s under trees with 5 other dog-filled cars. I’ve got a tailgate lock so the boot is propped open at all times (it’s a secure carpark!) and although I don’t particularly like the idea of her being in the car all day - she seems quite content in this routine and curls up in her bed. It’s not an option to have her in the office or I’d have her in like a shot!

OH has just changed jobs and so he’s now going to be based a few streets away from our house. He wants to keep Jilly at home and he’ll walk her in the morning and at lunchtimes. Whilst she’ll have more room during the day, the places we walk at home are not particularly stimulating compared to what she gets now. She’d also have to be on a lead most of the time (unlike now).

I’m also a bit worried in case OH can’t get away, esp as I’m 10 miles away and we don’t have anyone else I’d trust with my girl close by. If (on the very rare occasion) I can’t walk her at lunchtime, one of my 5 colleagues (the other doggy cars) will always be able to take her and she loves the other dogs.

We’re just going around in circles arguing about it – both ways have downsides, but they’re quite evenly matched!
Anyone got any suggestions??

How about you separate the week so he can do it 2 or 3 days and you take her to work with you the other days.

At least your OH can try it then and if he sees that she is not getting on with all the on the lead walks then you can have her back at work the whole week.

I did think about that - but she gets very unsettled if her routine is interrupted. She definitely knows her "weekday" and "weekend" activities! It's worth a shot though - I just want to keep her happy!

What a very lucky little dog. Firstly you rescue her and now you are both fighting over her

Some people argue about who is going to walk the dog (as in neither of them wants to!). I think both options sound fine for her, and she could settle into either routine. Doing both is a great idea, perhaps taking her to work with you on the days your OH is likely to be busy and you might be worrying about her. That way she gets some variety, hope you work it out soon

I know, it's quite silly that we're arguing over it! Variety is the key with her - she definitely needs something to keep her mind occupied! Maybe not calling her "my" dog and letting her be "OH's" dog for a bit will help too! Thank you both!
