Plans anyone?

I've just had a very long morning spectating at Tweseldown on day one (of 2) of their 1st BE of the season. Perfect ground and excellent weather. Plenty finishing full of running, Tina Cook was going great guns right round on the bits I saw, as was others, no idea on results so far, need to look them up. However, some were woefully under prepared and a few very tired puffing horses clambering the last few fences.

Tomorrow have sshhhh....a stressage lesson with esteemed local trainer, hoping he can help me iron out a few niggles of mine, as until am better B wont improve.
Pootling on Sat and escorting 2 on a 15 mile pleasure ride, hoping it stays dry!

Sounds like a great viewing day! I forget that if you go to the bigger classes and the early outings especially, you might see the big guns out ?. Nice to have a good day for it weather wise.

Going to run through a dressage test in my lesson tonight to see if I’ll enter something next weekend. Not sure we’re quite ready but it might be a good idea to try it and see how we do in a more comp environment. But nowt this weekend as we’re doing family stuff.

I AM GOING EVENTING!! Event season 2022 underway... just realised its my 20th consecutive season of being a BE member

We're off to Oasby to run in the novice as stage 1 of my plan to get to a late spring 2* long. Which seems like a fitting goal to try and get to in year 20. I mean some of these U18 lot get this far in a couple of seasons...

Nowt. Was supposed to be having first mini lesson on new steed this morning but he has already joined the sicknotes and got an abscess! Fortunately OH was on hand promptly and found the pus source which looks small and should be quick to resolve. Bloody WBs

Then off to Glasgow for 2 nights on a sulky trip because all the other women have cried off so i find myself sole female on a blokes weekend. Ho hum! at least i'm not missing much at home i guess

On Sunday, a clinic with an American clinician at our usual home from home venue. We're going over early on Saturday to watch and take some notes as I know it will be information overload. This clinician is fantastic and so knowledgeable; my brain has usually shut down about 5 minutes in. I'm hoping we've progressed enough over the last 2 years that I can take a bit more onboard this time. I admit for once I have some nerves about it, not about anything we'll be doing, purely around my ability to keep up. I'm very excited too, and it's lovely to have them back. I'm currently writing packing lists as for this one, presentation will also be gone over very thoroughly.

Vet for reggie tomorrow for jabs and teeth check (I'm hoping this is to just tick a box). While they are here I'll have a chat about B again. He's been looking a bit uncomfortable this week which is typical after his positive physio visit last week. I'm going to start long reining Robin I think. He needs something to think about as he's getting naughty again.

We are off cross country schooling on grass for the first time this year. Very excited as xc is his favourite thing to do and he felt very good for a flatwork session yesterday - the best he’s felt in months - so I am hoping he continues that behaviour on Saturday.

Just broken my big toe so nothing - had to cancel everything except attending Ingrid Klimke on Saturday.

Pony is on a (short lived) sick note but he times it well enough that we miss a glorious weekend & our plans. Ho hum!

I, on the other hand, am going to try prove to MrMM how much better his life is when I play ponies for hours. I overheard him mention to a friend the other day that he hoped I didn't get another pony (but was resigned to the fact I probably will). The next twenty odd years will be better for us all if he thinks the next pony is his idea ... ?

So exciting that the eventing season is starting up! I can't wait to get along to watch an event.

I rode share horse today, been lucky this week as had an extra ride. Monday's solo hack was great - my confidence is coming back and I actually enjoyed it! I sound a bit bonkers probably because I talk constantly to share horse and when I trot or canter I count out loud, a bit too loud I think

Today was just a bit in the school. It was good but I do wish I had someone on the ground to give feed back. Left canter was proving tricky and we did have an emergency stop at one point because she was rushing on. My fault as the transition was crap and I don't think were were in good balance as I was struggling to keep her out and bending the correct way on that rein. We've been practicing one rein stops anyway so I decided to put one to use so I could re-group and get us relaxed at trot again. That aside it was quite fun and again I'm really happy as my confidence is much better

I went down to Wellington in Feb 2019 to watch her clinic/demo. She didn't miss a thing and I don't think every guinea pig appreciated it ? A really educational day, although you wouldn't expect anything less from her!

I was thinking of going but have decided a quiet weekend is in order sadly (and can’t be arsed with queues for lunch/the loos) so enjoy LEC; hope the toe isn’t too sore!

Oh sorry to hear that LEC.

Test practise today went pretty good. Had a little light bulb moment about the final movement which we seem to blow, but I can do the exact same movement when we come into a circle afterwards. So I rode it like I was going to circle, and it went much better. The rest of the test was alright, lots to work on but I feel it’s ok enough to try it out at a comp (next weekend). I think I will be faced with an upside down giraffe, with his head up my nose, so very low expectations!

I’ve just remembered that my aim coming out of winter was to be able to canter a 20m circle, so the fact that I feel ok to go out and do a test ain’t too bad really.

I can't believe it's the weekend again! We had an amazing jump lesson on Wednesday but then it's been too hot to ride again. Thankfully next week is much nicer!

Tomorrow we have dressage club, first rally of the season. I am having a lesson with my usual coach which is great to carry on fro our jumping lesson. Henry needs to get in front of my leg so we have a decent canter to jump from.

Sunday Coolie and I will have a hack.

I am going to pony camp at Somerford. Hurrah. First camp of the year and I can’t wait. The 80 acre XC field is open and apparently the ground is great. Love, love camp.

We were supposed to go to a 2 phase on Saturday (OH on board) but decided to withdraw, horse would have been game for it but we felt slightly underprepared and more importantly my Nan is really very unwell, so I didn’t fancy straying too far, just in case.
Same course is open for schooling on Sunday, so OH going to pop over with our friend and their youngster.

Really lovely hack yesterday, and probably some schooling today. No plans for the weekend, so just sort of doing whatever I feel like on the day ?

We'll probably pop over a few jumps in the next days since it's been a bit.

There is a big dressage competition not too far away this weekend, but I'm not bothering to renew our stuff this year since we're moving soon/he'll probably be sold soon. Unaffiliated isn't really a thing here, but there is a comp in the next month with 2 unaffiliated jump classes - small stuff/85cm, but might be worth doing as something to do. The one this weekend (dressage) was supposed to be a smaller comp, indoor only, but there were over 300 entries so it expanded to indoors and outdoors. A fair amount of riders riding under other flags too (NL, BE, Lux, IT), so people are itching to get out, regardless of extortionate fuel prices at 2.56€/liter.

Blue’s turn this weekend. Not expecting much as he hasn’t been out since December so really just wanting to get through and get some more ring time under our belts

Had to totally rethink my plans (again ?‍) due to the baby needing some dental work done and Raz needing hocks medicated. Plan was to have a bash at the national 4yo class at the end of the month but it’s just been cancelled so it’s back to the drawing board for the 3rd time in as many weeks… ?

Lesson Monday so will probably look to polish any issues that crop under before Blue’s second attempt at E40 next week.

You're so kind, thanks! I'm a dressage rider, so my legs have always been pretty stable. I struggle with folding properly and letting go of my poor horse's face. My shoulders just don't understand any position that is not upright

2.5 weeks into box rest and my lad is looking perky ?






Yesterday I took a fellow livery's baby horse out for his first ever outing. He hadn't even done arena hire before. A local venue was running unaffiliated dressage yesterday evening so we popped along. He found it both exciting and scary and at one point lost control of both his legs and his brain ? He managed to do a sweet test, despite the scary plant pots at every letter. It was just a bit tense. And stupid rider was so busy congratulating him for passing the judge's box that she forgot the canter transition in the next corner ? 34.25 total (it was a BE test).

Then today I've ridden the yard baby horse. He is delightful. Big Irish chap who can really move once you put your leg on, rather than sit perched on top like a duck on a diving board.

Just a gentle hack planned for Sunday - I dressaged last weekend and had my first jumping lesson in years on Thursday so had plenty of excitement lately!

Clipped Charlie out on Thursday so he's raring to go now. I was at crufts with my friend yesterday but Charlie's owner went round somerford farm ride with him and apparently he was well on form.
I'll be hacking both today and then I've got a pole/grid clinic for both tomorrow
