So as not to accidentally derail the age old tradition of weekend plan threads, after my weekday plans thread, here we go!

I’ve just ridden (got soaked) - did a bit of pole work in walk with Charmer - and Ace had a treadmill session earlier, too.

The broodmare seems to have an abscess, so she is in, hot tubbed and poulticed.

Rest of the weekend…
Saturday - stretchy work for Ace, and more walk work for Charmer inc equibands
Sunday - groundwork for Charmer and equibands for Ace

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sounds like a good weekend of physio/rehab work you have planned. Apologies I've missed what the situation is with your horses - is it injuries related the work you're doing or just general strengthening/preventative work?

No riding for me this week 😭 My instructor needed to cancel my lesson.

I've been watching some horse racing documentaries which I'm finding really interesting so will be doing more of that to get my horsey fix! Also got sports psych homework to do which involves looking for videos of confident/assertive riders and pairing that with some imagery work to practice.

I'm still not quite right weeks after being unwell with a virus that may or may not have been Covid so that's set back the Long Covid again, but I hope I'll be able to do some of my Activate Your Seat exercises in lieu of actual riding!

Also it's new riding hat time so I'm off to Wadswick at some point to see what they have.

Walkies for us! As much walkies as my ankles can handle as Sadie is FAT AGAIN. I might ride on Sunday if she is normal and not a nutcase tomorrow. And I should probably ride before our saddle fitting on Tuesday and not do that with a horse that's not been sat on in 2 weeks 😬

I haven't been doing my activate your seat since I hurt myself like 3 weeks ago (unrelated) so I should also do that. It was helping!

General strengthening type stuff really, one of the lads has had a fair whack of time off recently too while we refurbed the arena. He had a fairly bad tendon injury a few years ago, so this is my version of wrapping him in cotton wool 😂

Probably wise to get back on board tbf 😂

Ohh and you’ve reminded me, I have AYS here as well… perhaps I need to factor that in as well to my weekend (and weekday!!) plans 😂

I try to do a set before I leave home for my lessons. Seems like a little can go a long way but I'd love to be more consistent and build up the sets/intensity. At one point I'd started adding in some HIIT rounds (a very not SPD thing to do) as well (not on the same day as AYS) and then my body was like 'who the hell do you think you are?!' so that's on hold until I'm feeling a bit better. 😂

Right that’s it, I am 100% AYS-ing tomorrow before I ride 😂

Gradually getting Maddie back up and running after almost 18 months off with ulcers finally diagnosed at the back end of last year (after many other investigations), and laminitis this Spring. We did a TRT type clinic with Alice Oppenheimer on Monday, followed by a saddle check, then she has been schooled yesterday and today. We missed out on the treadmill on Tuesday as the belt was being replaced. I will probably lunge/do some in hand work with her on Sunday. Tomorrow she has the day off as I am dressage writing - a good spread of classes from ele to GP, and there should be some nice combinations looking at the entries. I have spied another HHOer on the list of writers as well - do say hello if you feel like it. :)

@SaddlePsych'D - enjoy Wadswick - I love that shop!!

Pretty posing pony photo (please excuse half undone bridle!).....

I have this problem as well, it doesn't feel like enough and I'm tempted to do more so it feels... worth it??? It's a resurgence of weight lifter brain where you want to finish with like 5% left in the tank but horse people can't actually do that, we need to leave something for mucking out and riding the actual horse 😂

Pre-hab! Hope your physio appreciates you 😂 oh to have my own arena where I could have a little maze pattern out all the time! I love a wee maze! Need to set one up again and see if Sadie can still do it going backwards 😂

I love that poles exercise at the moment @sheep so versatile.

D.is also fat so she's being borrowed for a lesson and hack this weekend whilst I go to Glasgow for a friend's 40th. I never thought 3 years ago I'd end up with a pony I could lend safely 😅

Some one help me what is this AYS?

It's a bungee thing you shut in the door and do resistance exercises with. It was created by a physiotherapist who specialises in working with horse riders. Her FB and Instagram is worth a look at.

You have a type, hey 😂 gorgeous boys!!!

We did a 90 min walk. Happy chilled pony. Have lost some progress with the stifle strengthening for sure but I have cartrophen in the cupboard for when the ABs finish lol so we can get back on it! Will have a sit tomorrow for a quick hack with the Yard Teens who had one pony bucking, one tanking off, one looking iffy in trot and the other one rolled in his saddle so I felt too bad for them to say no 😂

Big bay eejits!

There is also a Small Bay (well, she’s more brown I suppose) who is in bad form with her sore foot.

Vet did call out earlier (farrier was unavailable unfortunately) and he is also confident that it is most likely an abscess, so he dug a little, hopefully enough to give it an exit. She has rock hard feet so it wasn’t easy 🤣

Ps, she isn’t actually this unhappy, I was just in her space and she is absolutely not a people person 😅

Smolmaus, hopefully your hack is a bit more civilised than the antics the Teens had to deal with today 🤣

Amber had her showing debut at a local Winter Native pony show, taking a 1st in the Mini mares and then Reserve in the Mini champs 🥹
To be honest I was so happy with how foot perfect she was - the placings were icing on the cake!

Thank god that the judges weren’t looking much at the dirt though - she’d have definitely got a 1st place for being mucky!

Sounds like some fun weekends!
On Friday and Saturday I went to an arena hire and classical dressage clinic, staying overnight.

I hired the huge outdoor with the portable xc jumps for a half hour play before the clinic. Mr H hasn’t had much arena time for a while and gets very whizzy.
He was very good , considering last time I had a lesson there a month ago he was over excited and tanked off.

He started off very politely and jumped several smaller jumps without taking off. I had decided to jump a slightly larger jump, at the same time he spotted a horse in the distance and small man syndrome forced him to try and charge at the jump. I pulled him up back to a walk then tried again and he jumped it nicely.

I popped a few more including a corner before he started trying to go sideways and charge at jumps of his choice then I pulled up again then finished with a couple of canters around the arena without taking off.

We probably only jumped for about 15 minutes altogether as I didn’t want to over tire him before the clinic or let him get worked up.

I put him back in his stable next to his chums from previous clinics , then had a dressage lesson in late afternoon.
We did some warm up , circle with inside flexion then did some shoulder in and counter shoulder-in , in walk. Did exercises moving from counter shoulder in to travers.
Then did some counter SI in trot, then SI. In trot SI he tends to drift off the track especially on the right rein and I had to sit up and use my core and not collapse my (mouse hand) right shoulder, which I have a habit of doing.

The following day was more of similar and then I was told to try travers in trot. We haven’t done this before but we did manage to keep the angle and (sort of) keep the bend. By the end we were going from shoulder in to travers and back. I was delighted, Mr H is clever and picks things up quickly (IMHO!) while being forgiving of my mistakes.

Got home yesterday afternoon and he went out in the field with Retired Mare (RM) and came back in , after sone vigorous rolling, looking rather like a hippo.
Today he had the day off , he was impatient to go out this morning, had a very good roll, then had a charge up and down with RM leaving skid marks.

Wasn't 😂

Had to dismount and walk the last 10 mins home as she couldn't decide if she wanted to be in front, or behind or make faces at other ponies or prance about like a twat and I got sick of it 😂

Teens ponies were all perfect, except the old man, but he still wasn't as annoying as Sadie!
