I don't think there's a thread yet?

I'm very excited as Chilli and I are off to BD Camp at Unicorn :D Lessons with Becky Moody, test riding, camp competition, sports psychology. And a strength and conditioning session so I've told my usual personal trainer that I'll be demanding a refund if I don't do well in it :p Oh and a short massage for me - usually only the horses get those!!

That sounds like a fun weekend!

I'm off to some very local BD on Saturday for a couple of novice tests with Isaac. Otherwise a fairly quiet weekend. Older horse is still off (now on official hols as season is over) with his sequestrum issue - we x-rayed last week and had pretty inconclusive findings. He's sound on it, but it still has localised swelling and the wound is not quite closed. But closing. Vets want to do surgery under GA if it doesn't clear itself up, but that feels a bit OTT to me with a fairly sound and happy horse. X-rays last week showed a small fracture to the bottom of the splint bone, and an area of possible sequestrum aligned to the location of the wound. I'm about to go abroad for 2 weeks, so might just continue to do the waiting game and give it a chance to reabsorb whilst hitting it with antibiotics and then make a decision when I get back.

Sorry to hear that your boy is still struggling. My local vet said they'd remove any sequestrum standing with local anaesthetic, would this not be an option? I really hope it resolves itself in the next couple of weeks, at least it's at the end of the season... Good luck at the BD!

Apparently standing isn't preferable in his case because of the additional fracture to the splint bone... was told they could do it standing, but would have a larger chance of not clearing away all the bad stuff. But operating at all on a horse that trots up sound on the leg involved just feels quite a strong move still anyway.... may take for more x-rays on Monday and then discuss options. Unfortunate that I lost about £500 of entry money for a 3DE - but hey ho, that's horses!

Not much for me as busy with family and friends.

I’m volunteering Sunday for my newly joined RC at their dressage champs.

Finn’s had a rough time of it with a number of complications during his melanoma treatment and surgery. He’s been at RVC for 3 weeks pretty much. Had a horrible few hours yesterday where I thought I might lose him, coming out of the GA, but thankfully he managed to untwist or unblock whatever was happening internally. It’s been an awful time for him - impaction, trouble pooing, emergency return visit to the RVC, infection in the catheter area, and serious colic coming round after the GA. He’s stable and alert today so I’m hoping he’s through the worst but I’m worried about his recovery. He’s not easy to treat at home if he has more problems. And I’m also not sure about the 3rd part of the melanoma treatment which would be in 7-10days and yet another GA ? Trying to do the right thing but it’s so hard balancing the risks.

Years ago I had something similar and the vets were adamant it would not close unless the operation was done.

I refused to put a sound horse under GA, kept it clean (bandage wasn't safely possible where it was inside the forearm), and after 4 months it closed. The next time the vet saw him her jaw hit the floor.

Oh god that sounds awful! You've both had an incredibly tough time.

RachelFerd I hope your boy is alright.

Michen that is very exciting (and kind of scary?!) I hope you and Boggle both have a smooth journey.

I have a RS lesson tomorrow. Have requested the lovely horse I had last time so hopefully they will be able to accommodate this. If not at least hoping perhaps one of the other horses I have ridden before. I know different horses teach you different things but I find getting to know them helps me feel more confident and able to be more forward thinking. It's been 2 weeks since last lesson so either way I'm going to just be happy to be with a horse for a bit!

@Bernster thats so scary and so glad Finn is doing a bit better today.

@RachelFerd hope your lad recovers soon.

@j1ffy exciting weekend. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

I don’t have much plans but someone mentioned a book in another thread, 55 correctional exercises for horses, so I bought it and I’ve been reading through it and would like to try some with Tali. It’s been a great read. And maybe a couple of hacks if the weather is ok.

Taking my 6 year old to his very first dressage. It's been slow progress with saddle issues galore. I nearly gave up on riding him at one point as he seemed to dislike it so ( I had a pro ride him and she asked too much too soon). We have found a way to make riding enjoyable for him and made good progress this year, but what the judge will make of him, I don't know!

Safe travels Boggle! Don't forget to keep us updated when you get to the other side!

I am beach donkey Derby racing tomorrow night so it will be a late one back. Then I am stewarding all weekend at the Caledonian Championships. I really enjoy stewarding. You meet some great people and have a good laugh! All of the craic and none of the flack.

We’re at home this weekend as I didn’t fancy a 5 hour round trip to do a basic prelim test.

I have a lesson booked for Monday afternoon on dad’s horse. I had hoped to take the 4yo along as well but he managed to lose a shoe this afternoon and I doubt the farrier will manage to squeeze him in before then.

My horse search is still ongoing, although I’ve booked to go and view two horses next Wednesday so ??

Thx for the support. He seems to be over the worst and is stable and his vitals are good. Minor miracle that he rolled and sorted himself out without intervention. Have agreed with the vet not to do any more treatment for now and let him rest and recover. He’s really been through it these past few weeks. Hopefully he’ll be back home next week ?

Boggle leaves at 4am for America.. I just picked up my passport and am about to book a flight for Saturday.

Still can’t believe this is happening.

Ahhh, so excited for you! Can't wait to hear about it! Safe travels to you and Boggle!

Mine flies in next week, I think. Can't wait to see what he's really like (I've only met him once) and what kind of horse he grows into.

Oh no, the weekend is already not quite going to plan - was clipping last night ready for dressage on Saturday when our neighbours had an emergency and I had to shoot home. Now horse is fully clipped but only to two thirds the way up his neck and with missed patches and untidy lines everywhere. I'm working in London today so now have to finish clipping at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning before I load....

Getting wet from the look of our forecast ? I was going to re-clip but think it will be too wet.

I'm in my happy place of hacking all weekend. Probably a short 5-6 miles tomorrow as unhorsey plans in the afternoon mean I need to get back but hoping to get out for about 15 miles or so on Sunday.

I've got a first lesson with a new instructor on Sunday, with a view to doing some proper showing next year with the baby clydesdale. I'm a bit nervous as the last showing lesson I had, years ago, tore such a strip off my confidence it took years for me to recover and i have never really recovered my showing mojo. Hoping for more success as this instructor ride judged us this summer and with very complimentary of him. Now winter is here I need to get my backside in gear with something to focus on during the long dark nights under floodlights.

i've got the dizzy heights of another walk and trot test with Nova tomorrow- he's not quite cantering smaller shapes yet but he needs the outings for his general education. Let’s see if we can beat a fairly pathetic 63% last time out.
Eagle the ex-racehorse then has a jump clinic on Sunday- he's very short of work and hasn’t jumped for a couple of weeks so he could be a fraction keen

I hope you have a fabulous, fun and confidence restoring lesson. Sucks when a single lesson can have such a big negative impact and then it takes ages to build it back up.
