I don’t think I’ve ever started this thread!

Bear is going to his first arena hire tomorrow with his pro rider. Then on Sunday I’m taking him to horse agility which I fully expect him to boss given all the ground work I’ve done with him! Bog will just be getting lots of in hand grazing and TLC.

Have a good weekend all :)A0923432-85B6-461E-9B0F-F42DB259CB4B.jpeg

I loved doing horse agility. Look at that face!!

Nothing much planned, hacking tonight (solo again same route as last night but reversed), J has physio tomorrow so will have tomorrow and possibly Saturday off, and then hack again on Sunday. Horsebox is in for its MOT, service and general check over Saturday as well ready for our little trip in a couple of weeks time :)

Horse agility sounds like a fun one to do with a baby :)

I have got a little excited and have planned a busy weekened.

Baby Podrick is booked in for his first Dressage Test at a new venue (as opposed to online). It's just nervous and novice and with the covid restrictions I'm hoping it'll be a nice quiet outing for his first one. Due to his hives as a two-three year old and then Covid this is his first outing and he didn't get to do the in-hand showing I usually use to introduce my young ones to the exciting land of shows.

Solo is going XC Schooling at Eland on Sunday for the first time since he retired himself from Eventing three seasons ago. He's really enjoying his jumping again, so hoping to have a fun outing. I hadn't realised how much I've missed Eventing until the fuzzy tummy made an appearance once I'd booked in. I don't know if I'll be confident enough in his desire to Event to try it again with him properly. But hopefully the young Pod will fill that spot for me in the future! Sunday is just about us both having fun.

Maybe filming a couple of dressages on sunday, I've qualified for haygrazer champs and this months dressage anywhere is a test I did a couple of weeks ago anyway so as I know it I may as well record it and see if I can qualify for the BD online champs too.
Otherwise, very little, supercob has a massage friday so hes on a chill day saturday

Mostly looking after my dog who was spayed yesterday. Despite her sassy attitude, she’s quite a wuss and has decided that she can’t possibly walk even a few feet so is having to be carried everywhere and wants someone at her side constantly. Poor little thing. She’s got a vet check up tomorrow to see how the wound is getting on.

Horse wise, I’ll be riding at some point.

Oh poor sassy dog scats :(

I had a sassy dog too, we could always tell when she was even a little bit under the weather as she got all clingy whereas the rest of the time she couldnt be bothered with humans (unless it was feed time lol)

Not a great deal planned as had v hectic weekend last week. Pootle etc, try to get in as coach for friend going sj on Sat afternoon.
Might take a drive over to an adjacent RC to try the route as have entered a comp there at end Aug and as they have a sj comp on this Sunday, so prob worth checking out.

Good luck to those competing and enjoying doing 'stuff' to everyone else :)

Another saddle fitting appointment for me for Alw - hoping my saddle fitter and I can come to some mutually agreed plan! Longer ride with jumps planned for Sunday for my older horse though I also need to make time on Saturday to school him. So, so boring but hopefully before long I can get Alw out to a little fun ride or tiddly xc course for in hand or walk/trot x country :) My older horse just needs to be fitter and for me to knuckle down a bit with the schooling whilst our field is rideable.

Well I would like to take Arts out but the last two occasions I booked an arena she managed a random self harming incident so I'm going for not planning anything for a bit ;). Up to last weekend I had three consecutive weeks of random injury with her (sore swelling under armpit, bashed her eye and it blew up, and managed to stab herself in the chest on something in the field), so if we just get through this weekend with her in one piece I will consider it a success.

Loading practice with baby pony, gentle hacking for the big man.

I can't help but add a very wistful weekend wish for some point later this summer...I would so love to take Alw for a flatwork lesson, a proper, structured, meaningful lesson. We have reached the point now where I really think she and I are both ready to take on a bit more. :) :)

In time honoured fashion i’ll do a retrospective lesson from last weekend...
I had an extra Saturday lesson - poles and jumping. I got told off for driving him too much at the start before he has woken up and pushing for a stride for first (tiny) jump when I hadn’t got the canter established and should not have presented ? apart from that he is feeling more manoeuvreable, he isn’t tanking (as much) and we were mostly getting the right canter leads. I felt rather unfit though and was puffing like a train...

On Sunday had flatwork lesson. We started shoulder in, which I’ve not done much of. After initially deciding (after 30 seconds) that I couldn’t do it, we were managing to get 3 strides or so in trot on each rein. RI hopped on to gauge how he felt on shoulder in (as I couldn’t feel it) and conceded he was difficult to feel being short coupled / not extravagant.
She then did a couple of fig 8s in canter , (we have been working on our changes our hacking) - then I got back on and did some canter 8s and he did flying changes on each rein ?

This weekend I have jobs and a hospital appointment on Saturday (having my funny lumpy finger assessed by specialist) but hoping for another Sunday flatwork lesson. Can you believe it, I now look forward to dressage lessons ???!!! I don’t think mr H does judging by the harrumphing...

Oh and a mid week pole/jumping lesson.

I was supposed to be at a pole work clinic on Saturday... But.... Last weekend we were on the way to the farrier when a warning light came up on my box. We had to turn for home...

The shoe has slipped so I had both fronts off to make sure slipped shoe didn't do any damage (farrier doesn't come out, but a local apprentice works for the local saddler and came out just to remove). She has been fine without fronts, just ridden a couple of times in the arena. Today the box has been fixed, so on Saturday, instead of a pole work clinic, we are having new shoes!

A bit annoying, but I work in a school so, as long as the shoes are on and the box is fixed, we have 7 weeks of summer holiday to play at whatever we like. I had been booked on a couple of camps but they were both cancelled. One gave a refund, the other is letting me go for lessons instead, which is OK. But not this weekend :-(

i like the sound of horse agility Michen, be interested to hear how you get on.
Shame about the camps Red-1, there seem to be quite a few going ahead at the minute, so you must have drawn the short straw.

Saturday is a day for weeding. Then Im off to somerford on sunday morning to do the farm ride. Then car shopping in the afternoon with my son.

The weekend started this afternoon! :) For no reason whatsoever I suddenly felt completely cool about my older horse and I tackling some easy 1m jumps (home-made hedge thing and home made rails thing!) after a really positive flat work session in the field. No idea why that worked out so well and so relaxed but he is feeling fabulous, super athletic and relaxed about jumping :) :) :) Usually we are a bit 'dithery' about jumping anything other than little logs. Weeeehheeeee!! Tis a lovely feeling and I so love that horse. :) :) Here is his handsome self

I've had a great horsey week already- had a jump clinic with Mark Phillips yesterday and he was as brilliant, as always, and the horse jumped absolutely super. Then a dressage lesson today with a classical trainer who I haven’t seen for nearly a year for various reasons but it was also great- really constructive and useful and exciting for the future!
Sunday we're going to test all this learning out at combined training, where it will undoubtedly all unravel and all the accumulated bad habits will re-re-emerge ?

Fabulous mojo-restoring lesson this afternoon. Kira felt chirpy from the off which always makes me happy by extension ?
Some good basic trundling, then put her to work. Compressing her from hindlegs into a must-be-soft contact, she has a habit of squashing one bit of her body and then popping out somewhere else. Started in walk, then to a short trot, gradually applying pressure until she offered passage. I got some good steps then she jacked it, there followed a small tantrum so trainer got on for a feel and unpicked her tangles so she started to understand the question better. Useful for me to watch because she threw everything at him that she does to me ?

So pleased to see that what we've worked on at home is starting to pay off. She's not far off really getting the idea, at the moment she still thinks its more complicated than it has to be so is a bit of a pickle to ride. As soon as she figures it out I think it will come quickly.

So good to have my happy pony back ? she's very tired now ?

I took Boggle once when he was a baby- his first trip out anywhere proper in lorry. He was a bloody liability. grabbed everything in his mouth, kicked balls around. He ripped down their “scarey” archway thing with his teeth. Dragged me around everywhere. Didn’t give a damn about anything that was meant to be scarey and spent the entire time just being a menace.

The woman kept banging on about how nervous he was and how I needed to be super gentle with him because he was so frightened. He wasn’t frightened he was a cheeky git of a 5 year old thoroughly enjoying himself!!!

Dressage for me this weekend, just a local unaff venue, for a prelim & novice test. Feeling a bit rusty but should be fun, I hope. Rode through the novice test tonight and think I more or less know it, need to learn the other one now!
Not on til the afternoon, OH will be delighted because he won’t have to get up early ?

I am taking my rediscovered jumping at home confidence out for a test run away from home at a very low key comp. This will be the first competivite jumping for 12 months and I am scared! The first pic is from 12 months ago and I thought that was huge. The 2nd is from my last lesson. We have come a long way and I love this horse, just need my nerves to not come out too badly and I am hoping I might actually have a good time! :)

Hope everyone else has a great weekend!

Early frosty ride this morning, love being the only one at the horses but gosh it's a struggle to get up o_O L wasn't too impressed but we had fun trotting and cantering ourselves warm.

early.JPG

Off to a lesson with L tomorrow, we've been working on schooling and contact but currently in a bit of a rut with our canter (99% sure it's me!). I do have to say it has improved to no end since I started working on it! Hopefully some eyes on the ground can pick up where I'm going wrong. I am hoping to start introducing changes soon, but the canter and counter canter needs to be 100%.

E the TB is enjoying her break, she's out with a friends TB and two Arabs, they've already collectively staged a jailbreak (although THAT was helped along by someone leaving the gate open...). I'm glad she's happy in her little herd, it's what she needs. Bella the baby learned to line up to me on a mounting block this week, she reckons she's very clever. I am also super pleased that she seems to be getting the message that being mouthy about her rug changes is Not On.

Have a good weekend all! I'll leave you with a photo of the two bonding over some lucerne scraps :p

Today we have the farrier and probably a damp ride in the bush. Not sure what tomorrow will bring, will depend how wet it is! Sunday is exciting though, we have a cross country competition. We are doing our first ever 80! I'm a bit nervous, though not about the jumping, more about how he's been fresh and the warm up could be interesting. At any rate it will be brilliant to get out and compete again, and it is going to be good training for our first full event back in a few weeks time. Exciting!

We went to Eland yesterday to try and put our fears to bed after our last trip! Then off to Kelsall over the weekend .

Erm so slightly wobbly start ??
109912821_1360094584176398_1219843096713695733_o.jpg

But after sorting the wobbles out and installing some control, Skylla was pretty fantastic! Not sure what she's got against Eland but it was really useful to work through and I know how to ride to keep her motivated when she's feeling a bit backwards now. Hopefully looking good for Frickley next weekend!
