Who has got some? :D

Nothing doing, here, probably spend the whole weekend asleep, (I wish). Am burning out at work... need to keep the horsey plates spinning in spite of that

Had lesson on Tuesday which I meant to put on last week's thread but I just never had the time so will pop some clips below. Novelty to have some video :) nothing very earth shattering but just bits nudging along and bits that I cocked up, haha.

So quiet weekend and then supposedly doing a 2 day clinic but I guess that will depend on whether the BHS etc say that the new lockdown measures apply to sport training or not o_O hopefully it will go ahead. otherwise I guess I'll give the leave back and do more bloody work!

Have fun all

I love watching your videos MP. It gives me the kick up the arse I need to crack on a little with my ordinary but willing Welsh x !

My four year old is off for his first jump lesson tonight. I use jump lightly because he will mostly be practising being in a new school and cantering over poles if we get that far!

And then the Mickey is off Hunt Ambling again at the weekend.

Were you doing half pass in rising trot there MP? I cant do anything harder than leg yield in rising trot ?
I'm sort of isolating as I had a sore throat last weekend, although I think actually I was being a bit previous but we'd had a positive test result from one of other liveries. I've not had time for a test so I've just isolated. I may try and get tested over weekend at least then I can crack on next week with seeing how he comes back to work after his holiday. Otherwise, I'm just stuck in hiding til next weekend ?

I set up the spider exercise from last weekend’s pole/grid clinic in the outdoor this morning. Had a play over it with the new boy, who took it all in his stride. ?

He then had an absolute meltdown at being asked to walk out of the school onto the path up to the barn ?

We got there eventually but he spent a fair amount of time up on his back legs. Ended up getting off and taking him in hand, and then getting back on. ?‍♀️

Out jumping on Saturday with Madame and the big boy, and then I’m going to take the new boy to polework on Sunday to see how we get on.

Hope everyone has a good weekend ☺️

Off to do the unaff at Llany on Sat!

Forgot to update the last one with my Tuffy lesson, fab as ever!
Though no idea where my current confidence crisis has come from, I'm wondering if displaced anxiety is a thing? Work is just too stressful currently and has been for the last couple of months, I know I must be feeling it as tummy issues have popped back up. Tuffy asked if we'd had a bad fall as that's what it's presenting like, but we haven't and the only thing that's really come unstuck is two conflicting teaching styles, and a couple of sticky events, but that really shouldn't be messing my confidence to ride to a fence this much?

Anyway outcome was I need to stop putting so much pressure on myself and start to have fun again! Skylla is so sensitive that she can tell I'm panicking and then I block her and then neither of us 'has it', so then we stop! Massively noticeable with any new fence as we tend to wobble to a stop and then go second time, whereas fences we might have jumped on our previous visits Skylla is taking me over them as she knows what the question is.

I did suggest we stick at 70 forever but Tuffy said no :p and pointed out we were already jumping plenty in the 80-90 range schooling so I need to just sort myself out
1f602.png
. In the end I could feel us getting back into the swing of things and I was starting to unclench
1f602.png

. So lots of unaff to get myself together and a winter of training is on the cards!

Stafford BE for Katie and Dolly on Saturday. We missed the ballot date for Kelsall so this may be the last of the season. Hope it's a good one.

HP - nerves/anxiety are so frustrating but the key is understanding what is getting in the way which you clearly do. Am sure you will be back on it soon. x

Her colour looks lovely in that video and I love the flicky hair!

After another fruitless (or should I say clear?) vet investigation, we’re cleared for full work so hacking with a friend this weekend but no big plans for a couple of weeks. I am booked onto the Andy Thomas rider symmetry assessment on sept 26 which could be interesting!

dunno, can't remember but i do lots of sideways in rising trot, helps keep the trot swingy and forward even when the sideways is difficult. I find you need to be on the "wrong" diagonal to keep your leg aid at the correct timing easily for travers/HP.

HP I think displaced anxiety might well be a thing. I'm massively stressed out with work and I definitely find I'm totally in the wrong headspace to cope with Darcy at the moment. Not really sure what you can do about it except maybe to acknowledge that there's stuff in the background that is making it hard to be at your best?

Glad your lesson went well, good plan to do llany I reckon. Yes, yes displaced anxiety is totally a thing and very possibly work related stress is manifesting in your riding.

Huffly 2 things came to mind on your post - yes outside influences def can impact , the brain is a funny old wibbly wobbly thing. 2nd I had to take a step back and limit the number of trainers I went to as it seemed to coincide or impact a confidence issue I was having. Too much conflicting input. Better to go with those you know work well for you and have quality sessions rather than my somewhat random outings!

@Ambers Echo hope you don't mind me asking but please can you briefly explain ballot dates to me? I was trying to work out exactly what they meant but couldn't seem to find the info - if it's after ballot date can you not enter?

I have a jumping lesson tomorrow (again kind friend taking me!) so i'm hoping Buzz is a bit more enthusiastic this time! Nothing other than that, probably hacking again but getting a bit bored of the same route. The farmer has blocked off the access to the other big hack we can do :( it involves a very short walk on a footpath which leads to a huge country park with gallops and bridle paths but now the grandson of the original farmer has decided he doesn't want us on there. Which is fair enough as it's his land but it's abit frustrating that we have this amazing horse specific place just down the road and we can't get to it!

Will also pop into the garage and see how the box is getting along....

Enjoy your weekends everyone :)

Show that was supposed to be 20th is now this sunday thanks to he new covid rules, so that's me grooming again for a friend. It's low level and we always have a laugh what ever we do.
B1 is enjoying his solo hacking so a bit more of that and a play around on the long reins to try and help his topline improve a little.

Other half is building an extention on the chicken run on saturday, so I have plans to talk him into building a couple of small cross country jumps while he's at it. I've had my eye on some tyres he has piled up in the corner for a while now.

Enjoy your weekend everyone

If an event is over-subscribed then they 'ballot' on the ballot date. The BE website has a Fixtures page and the ballot dates are on there for all the upcoming events. You are prioritised according to your level of membership, whether you have used a ballot sticker or not (you can choose the events you most want to do and use a 'sticker' on them) and then they draw the ballot and some people will miss out.

You can't enter after the ballot date if the event is full. You can (with a late entry fee) if the event is not full.

Oh I'll probably be withdrawing from Kelsall (unless some sort of confidence miracle happens lol), wonder if there is a way I give you my place?

It's really odd, as Skylla is fab and very straightforward but I can feel myself freezing up on the approach and not having the commitment for it. Tuffy had to build a cross pole up from the ground for us, but then once we got going she was whizzing over everything asked... Oh hum, just keep going and try to get the fun part back!

Glad your lesson went well, good plan to do llany I reckon. Yes, yes displaced anxiety is totally a thing and very possibly work related stress is manifesting in your riding.

Haha to be honest I was always doing Llany, Tuffy would have needed to be very persuasive otherwise, but she totally knows what's best for us right now, and the pressure of a BE (and not getting eliminated :p) is not it!

Definitely agree, I think now needing to sort of 'undo' the last 6 months of lessons has just added fuel to the fire of my wobble but not necessarily started it.

I've had consistent lessons/ trainers but unfortunately all the ones in the last 6 months contradicted what we'd been doing in the previous 6 months

. However, it's become obvious which style suits us better hence going back to the set them up, soft hands in and let them jump the fence, definitely do not count the strides, as as Tuffy put it, I'm trying to find one, Skylla is coming on a different one and then we make a mess when we get there

Ah excellent thank you :) i was possibly thinking about entering Norton Disney but i wanted to wait until after my hunter trial at the end of the month but the ballot date is the 18th so I may have to enter before then! Is Norton Disney too far for you to go?

Great vid MP, kira looking really good.

I love your new boy blood magik - a star in the making.

That sounds like a good clinic HP. I know that when I was going through a personal crisis it most certainly affected my riding confidence.

We are going saddle shopping! I bought a new dressage saddle before lockdown but I wasnt getting on with it so moved it on and now that M has lost a fair bit of weight the jump saddle isn't really working either so need to get something sorted out. Will probably find that only the expensive ones fit and that there isn't a 2nd hand available anywhere but that's how it goes.

Great video mp!

I'm back to my regular lesson tomorrow and my partner has the day off work so I have a camera person. Excited to share some pics/video and hoping I'm on the horse I usually ride so can do a bit of comparison because I feel improvements have been made each week.

Seeing share horse on Sunday, hopefully a little hacking and a little in the school. Going to be trying out some of the ideas from the 'wobbly moments' thread to help with the hacking and going in to it with a positive mind set. Also maybe work on halt/walk/trot transitions and shapes in the school - just very basic things to get used to being in a school without an instructor and to enjoy the time getting to know share horse more.

thanks, it's great to just wander down the hill instead of have to schlep over there. haha it's always entertaining, the first week we were there, we were supposed to be working towards the passagey steps. but the lesson started with Kira fairly slowly but determinedly exiting the arena through the open door and legging it back to the stable. Totally out of control. i said it's a good job he knows us because otherwise it would have seemed somewhat unlikely that we'd be doing anything even remotely like advanced work :p imagine if that was your first ever lesson!

Got some thinking to do over the weekend as I've now had my appt with the cardiologist and it was good news and bad news! Good news is I don't have what I was told by hospital and what I have is curable with a fairly straightforward bit of abalation, bad news is because of Covid the NHS list is likely to be very long and even if I sell a kidney and go private, the private hospitals are still not doing much because they are working for the NHS. So I could be looking at a very extended period when I am struggling to ride! As I am 72 later this year I feel I am running out of time. Ok end of "poor me!"
Positives, I am enjoying hacking Rose off road and I am going to do more of that, I had a lovely hack on TROT again this morning, tomorrow Rose will be schooled for me, Saturday she's having a day off and Sunday I have someone coming to ride her who might be interested in doing a bit with her whilst her own horse is off with a soft tissue injury, depends if they hit it off or not!. Monday I am hacking with a friend and Tuesday we are at AM Dressage and I am hoping to be able to manage 20 mins on board but |I am so looking forward to watching the lessons. I might also sneak down on Wednesday if it's still legal to do so.
Have a great weekend everyone, keep safe and look after your health, it's a bugger when your body starts to let you down!
MP and J1ffy, see you on Tuesday!

Lovely vid of Kira. She’s a special wee soul.

HP - yes anxiety will use up some of your general ‘coping’ capacity, and this can manifest itself in confidence loss. Hope you can get sorted at work soon. In the meantime, be kind to yourself. It will come back.

Me, I’m in Scotland. I think this means that I’m doing not much. Again. At least I can ride, and my horse is awesome. We might get out competing before he retires!
