There's a competition at the yard this weekend, so we'll be partaking in that. Have to bake a few things for the bake sale as well. Should be a nice time and it went really well (1st comp hosted) last year.

Mostly just been schooling and hacking lately. Realized this horses calling in life is working equitation, lots of lightbulb moments for him and it's sort of given him a "point" to his work with the obstacles and whatnot. Dressage in disguise ? I'm going to try to host a "fun day" at the yard soon and set up a small course for people to try because a few have commented that they find what I'm doing to be interesting ?

Have a nice weekend everyone!

I'm keen to try some WE with Chilli, he engages his brain better when there's a clear problem to solve (like many PREs I imagine, but he's the hottest / most sensitive that I've ridden).

Nothing horsey for me this weekend as I'm off to Exmoor to visit friends. Might manage to squeeze in a cuppa with the lady who rehabbed Pocholo's navicular 11 years ago too...I can't believe it's 11 years!

Exactly re engaging the brain. Mine is definitely on the hot and sensitive side too. With the WE stuff, it's as as though it helps him see a point to what he is doing and not overthink it. Plus it's not just circles and lines, there's "stuff" to look at and do. Even a simple cone pattern helped him with his flying changes before. I'm wondering if we can eventually master the canter sidepass over a pole. I think that's going to be mentally challenging for him, for a few reasons.

The best part is that no one cares about my sh*tty extended trot ? because I don't have to do it. It's improved, don't get me wrong, but it isn't our strong point.

We are at Frickley Park for a normal BE90 section running at the end of the day on Saturday for the 5yo - glad that they snuck one in, as one of my favourite events but we weren't qualified for the NQs or the AFCs. Funnily enough, I think he is now qualified to do one next year (the qualification was a few days after the deadline cut off for this year...) - but since I plan to run at Intermediate on the other horse before then, I won't be able to do it. Anyway, we're going XC at about quarter to seven in the evening - so I hope it isn't actually getting dark! Frickley involves going in and out of woods a few times, so that could be interesting re. shadows/shade...

I was going to take Tali an inhand walk this afternoon but just done a 10mile run and I’ve blistered the arches on me feet ? so she may have to carry me instead.

it’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m going to go a nice morning hack and have some canters on the beach as I’m off work and can hack out to work with the tides. ?? OH didn’t organise a cake for me so I will make my own cake (I enjoy baking anyway) and he can do the dishes. And then spag Bol for tea as it’s my favourite.

hold onto your hats guys…. I’m having a weekend in! No partying or any plans really. So will just see what happens.

good luck to those competing and have fun everyone else.

Possibly the most random plan so far on this thread but taking the horses to church...
No joke lol. It's the blessing of the animals service and we take the horses along. The vicar actually brings his horse too and rides him out of the church once the service is finished.
This will be the 3rd year we've done it, will make sure I post some pics

I had a lesson last night, another booked for tomorrow evening and one on Saturday. Trying to get me up to speed on all Amber has learned in training ahead of our first show of the year next weekend.
She's very different to the horse I dropped off 3 weeks ago, and she was not impressed that I haven't kept up! Hopefully, by Sunday, I will be at least adequate as a rider again. :D

We are off to Frickley too! The AF90 is 6.29 optimum time, should be fun. Didn’t enter the NQ as won’t be here next year and would have had to register BE. Annoyingly we had to go in the open section for the AF because of his placings so we won’t have a hope against the dressage divas but I heard such good things about Frickley I wanted to go anyway!

Hope you have a great run.

Frickley is usually a stiff XC test for any championship or special class they are running - exciting that they're putting on a proper max length course for the AF and I bet it will have a few interesting questions in it, making full use of natural features. You may just find that it mixes up the scoreboard enough to deny the dressage divas the advantage!

I'd love that! My main reason for going was because of what I'd heard about the XC being tricky, hoping it will be a nice fun challenge for us!

Good luck :) (not that you need it as 90 will feel like childs play for you!!)

I can finally join in again!

My first weekend back riding since June. Just 20 mins walk each day (we're 2 months into kissing spine rehab). It's my favourite part of the day!

I'm trying really hard to not do my usual plodding along with one hand on the reins not concentrating. So I'm making sure she's straight and forward and making sure I am thinking about my position too. When we get to our 20 minute marker I'm asking for a nice square halt and then a turn on the forehand to go back home. Really making the most of that 20 mins!

Yikes! You are way braver than me.

Fin is enjoying his Western hackamore. Which is good, because I've deconstructed his English hack and sent the shanks away to be installed into his custom-made English hackamore.

We are having to float out to ride so today I took Henry to my coaches place to use her arena to do some flatwork. He was really good, I am working on keeping the rhythm at all times. So so hard for me! But tings are improving and getting much smoother.

Tomorrow I think I am going to take all my boys show jumping. it's a comp I have never made to even though hubby has judged there before. The weather is nice so why not!

Have spent the last couple of weeks getting my ginger boy used to saddle and girth again now his ulcers have gone. He’s been working happily on the lunge and walking in hand down the lane so today was the day to hop back on! Really pleased with him, some expected slight tension at the start but relaxed v quickly and was such a good boy, offering lots of nice stretches, so pleased. Have upgraded his saddle too, it’s so comfy and Charlie agrees!

Nada for us…

Raz hadn’t been feeling quite right under saddle the last few days so ended up booking him in for a performance work up at the vets instead of going to the show I had planned as I wasn’t sure if I was just being paranoid/seeing things. Turns out I wasn’t - hocks had gone again ?

He’s already feeling much happier but we might have to rethink things as the steroids just aren’t having a lasting effect.

Blue has a lesson booked for Monday but he’s still being rather temperamental so have decided to try him on a calmer to see if that helps take the edge off. He’s so talented but easily the most frustrating/difficult horse I’ve ever met (and yes, everything has been checked and checked again). ?

On the plus side, the 4yo has been a wee star since starting back in work after his check injury. Hoping we’ll be ready to go to an arena hire in the next two weeks or so.

Hope everyone has a successful weekend.
