Hi

I brought my horse in from the field this morning to find a wet patch about the size of the bottom of a mug on the side of her bum. When I wiped it with a tissue a clear golden-brown colour liquid came off. A short while later another much smaller patch had appeared. It causes mild irritation if poked, there is a small amount of heat only where the liquid is, no swelling or lumps.
I have never come across anything like this before, has anyone else? Does anyone know what this could be?
Any suggestions much appreciated. :-)

sounds like he has something in there ,

blackthorns can work their way not be visible
or could have made a puncture wound not visible

I would bath it in hibbi scrub twice a day if you can and he lets you i would clip the area so u can have a better look .

If it is still weeping by tonight i would call vet he might need antibiotics:)

Thanks for that- you may be right about something getting in there as she has had a lot of burs stuck to her recently and they are devils to get off!! I have bathed it in hot salt water which should help draw anything out. It seems to have dried up now, so I shall leave it as I don't want to aggrevate it if it is starting to right itself. Fingers crossed that's that wierd episode over with and the vet can stay at home! :D
