Hi all
My daughters welsh section a pony has started with a weepy eye and his nose seems to be running. His eyes are clear and it as though he is crying the fluid just keeps dripping as does his nose.

The fluid in both eyes and nose are clear fluid with no signs of infection.

I just wondered if anyone knew what this could be and if i should be worried.

many Thanks in advance
Louise

It could be hayfever, runny eyes will create enough tears to run down the nostrils just the same as in a human. There are various treatments available including using piriton to help ease the symptoms a fly mask may also help.
A blocked tear duct may also cause problems, more usually just in one eye, contact your vet for advice if it continues or you are worried.

Aww thank you, i actually never thought of hayfever as we had him last summer and he never had these symptoms but we have moved yards and he is out 24/7 at the moment so i guess it could be a change in enviroment.

Hi Rollo,

One of mine gets the same sort of thing, usually when it's dusty or at change of the seasons - especially if there are flies or midges around. I use saline on a lint-freecottonwool pad to clean just below the eye, especially the inner corner, otherwise flies get attracted. Then I also use a fly mask very diligently if there are signs of flies around etc.

As for the vet, not sure what I can suggest for his problem! ...sorry, but your title gave me a blonde moment and I wondered if both horse and vet had the same complaint :D

Thank you all.

i will keep an eye on him lol.

And Ancient hacker that did make me laugh and after one to many drinks watching the football it was defo out loud.

i had some sterile eye drops which i got from work and used them tonight so will see what happens.
